Hello lads,
I've got a year old Mongoose ToRQ super premium that I have had no luck with. The bat had gotten some pretty horrid looking cracks on the face when it was about two weeks old due to facing a few rock hard bat breakers. Luckily these cracks were mostly cosmetic and didn't affect performance. Now however the bat has a new issue. I've got what looks like the face of the bat peeling away and a crack running almost all the way up the outside edge of the bat. Only pics can do it justice really.
I've already had this bat reapired once and i'm getting a bit fed up really. The bat has never really impressed me ping wise even though it is starting to open up more now. Is this thing worth repairing or is it a lost cause to be demoted to rain and net bat status? Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated.

That looks knackered!
I'm sure it can be glued etc,, but if it never really played that well, then a good oppurtunity to go get a new bat?
My laver suffered similar damage to a dodgy ball, and it was Sod's law right in the middle of the bat

Looks like a new bat is overdue, if you want one.
If not, or cash is an issue, then it's certainly repairable enough to still be usable.

Did you have a scuff sheet on it?

Could repair it sell it to someone looking for a net bat the buy a new one

Looks a bit dry to me though.

The bat did have a scuff sheet on it as well as a shed load of fibreglass tape to protect the face and edges. I removed it all to get a better view of the possible damage.
I do agree that the bat looks very dry so some oiling in probably in order.
So the majority think this bat is repairable. I was just wondering how i would go about that? I can stick some wood glue in the big crack at the bottom and bind it with twine but that crack continues up the majority of the side of the bat. How do i tackle that?

Plenty of other examples in the forum. That said you need to get pva glue inside the cracks and clamp or tape them tight for 24 hours.

Just a quick update. I set about trying to repiar this thing and i'm not unhappy with the results. This is my first attempt at doing a repair like this so i hope it holds together. There may be some life left in her yet!

Good job. You still need to fibre tape it tightly, but it should hold for a while.

Thanks guys. I followed the advice posted on here and watched Julian Millichamp's bat maintenance video (what an awesome resource that is!)
Of course I already bought a new one to replace it...just in case lol
Hey Sarg. I'm going to be putting a scuff sheet on the bat again. Should I put the fiberglass tape under the scuff sheet... right on the wood? Or should I put it on top of the scuff sheet wrap it tightly around the bat?

Personally I would put it on the wood as tort as possible. Then put the scuff sheet over the top.

Agreed. Tape first. Cover the entire area where it cracked, start at the opposite edge and pull the tape across the face around the glue edge tightly to the back and back onto tape to bond. No need to overdo it with extra layers. You can make it neat so it looks good if you take you time. Then apply facing.
I did it the other way on someone else's bat, then used strips of really strong clear facing as tape over the top. Either way it will break again eventually. Hopefully after a season or two more.
Btw I am going to be using my Torq Series for the first time this season in Aus. Just wondering, besides the bad luck, whether you like using the bat.
I put a facing on mine but after a few nets realised 2.12 was too heavy for me, so off came the facing, half grip and toe guard Now 2.10 1/2. Still picks up nicely and feels very forgiving.

Well I must admit that at first this bat did not impress me at all ping wise. That was mainly because i was comparing to my old GM hero 909 which had fully opened up and felt like a tennis racket when hitting. The bat is 2'7, 2.8 with grips on and it picks up really nicely. The more I use the more it seems to be opening up and the middle is getting more potent.... but anything off middle doesn't really travel at all. I'm hoping I can see the bat reach it's potential before it finally dies.
