Title: "Compo" Balls Damage Bats?
Post by: InternalTraining on September 03, 2014, 02:32:03 AM
Do they?

I have used my bats hitting Bola balls but can't say that any bats were damaged except one (the face was already cracking and showed signs of chipping). What are your experiences? Do you use a separate net bat for Bola/Compo balls or net practice?

So you saw Laver & Wood's post too.  ;)

Yeah I'm sure the bola balls aren't as good for your cricket bats as normal leather balls, but in my opinion its not going to damage a bat to the point of needing a separate net bat just for that reason.

The true, old fashioned composite balls were awful for bats. Can't say that i've ever seen damage from a Bola ball though, so I suspect that this is more marketing than anything else...

I see it daily, it's not the ball but the repetition. Most manufacturers will discourage a good bats use with a bowling machine. Different with some of the UK bats maybe, the B3 I had you could have thrown steel marbles at it and it wouldn't of marked it.

Never had an issue against bola balls in 7 years so suspect it's fine.

Only issue I can see is digging a yorkie out. Ball hard floor or bat?? Hmm bats breaking.

But that's the same with all hard balls on indoor floors.

After 1000s of hours use in bowling machine nets. I've never seen a bat break with a bola ball yetm
