Here are some pictures of my latest acquisition. :D
It is a Millichamp & Hall Amplus Mark-1.
The bat was packaged very lightly and I have already provided this feedback to Millichamp and Hall. The bat itself is a wrapped in a very thin, flimsy layer of bubblewrap.

I discovered a small dent on the spine. Considering how lightly the bat was packaged, I feel lucky there was no damage to the bat during shipment.

There is a small pin hole like blemish on the face of the bat. Other than that, it has a clean face and 12 grains.

The bat weighs 2-13.4 ozs.

It has a very small/gentle bow.

There is some concaving around the spine. You can see marks from sanding and finishing.

The face of the bat is rounded and has a camber of about 4 mm (I am approximating, I could be wrong).

The bat has about 40 mm thick edges.

The bat itself looks pretty nice, but for a high end brand such as M&H, they really have a poor standard of finishing. Surely for the amount of money they charge, it really should be an expectation that they try to excel in all the areas of the batmaking, from the shaping to the finishing. Seen many mass produced bats finished better than that! :-[
Hope it plays well for you! Only really held 4 M&H bats in my hand, all of which did have exceptional performance. :)

Packaging
I don't think the bat was packaged properly with sufficient bubblewrap or even cardboard material. I am thanking my lucky stars that there was no damage to the bat.
Weight and overall feel
The bat weighs 2 pounds 13.4 ounces. It feels very light for its weight. My initial reaction was that it felt around 2 lbs. 8 oz. After having swung the bat a few times, It feels it around 2 lbs. 9 oz. and change. Still, it's pretty remarkable how light the bat feels.
Finish
As you can see from the pictures, it is not finished and polished like some other high end bats. The edges are perfectly rounded though. The bat is oiled and knocked - it has indentations all over the face. Proportionally, the bat is cut to perfection. The contours, the edges, the face of the bat or all symmetrical and precisely shaped.
Pressing and ping
The pressing is soft. For a bat that has just been knocked, the ball rebounds extremely high.

So far, this has been the only disappointment.
-
Surprised it's not polished under a buffer to get ride of the sanding marks. Even I can get a better finish with my 25 year old B&D Drill and cloth buffing wheel without polish.
-
wierd though as I have two M&H bats and both are finished beautifully.
-
i had an amplus finished exactly like this one in the pics
sanding marks were all over the bat. If you can get past that they are great bats. I think M and H had a sale on recently so if you got a decent price then great
Good bats, very expensive and there's better value elsewhere.but's that's another thread :)
if you like the bat that's the only thing that matters, I have two mates with the amplus at my clb and they both say they would not use any other manufacturer
-
The finishing or lack of, doesn't surprise me. Whenever I've trawled through stocks of M&H bats at stockists they are consistently the worst finished bats of the all brands there, and that's been the case every year I look. So when mainstream brands like Puma or Kook are finished better than a premium priced brand, it surprises me. If you compare a similar price bat from Salix, the difference in finishing is massive between a M&Have and a Salix.
-
M&H do not finish bats to any kind of level such as Salix, Newbery and this has always been the case. Having owned a few I do not believe they polish there bats and the back of most of there bats are quite rough .
They are however very good performing bats so depends of this bothers you or not I guess.
The bat looks very nice mate with a lovely face, the knot will have no impact on the bat at all so if you got in there sale not a bad price considering there prices. Best of luck with it.

The bat was on sale and I thought it was a good deal. I opted for Amplus because it is a well-known model for its performance and high sweet spot. I have yet to take it to the nets but by just bouncing a ball on the face, I can tell that it has an amazing rebound.

I think I got a good deal. I can overlook the blemish and also lack of finishing off the back of the bat. My biggest concern is performance and also the high sweet spot.
-
Looks like a nice stick, but as many have said - the finishing is poor for the price that they are.
-
I am very surprised at that finishing! Do you think they sort of 'forgot'?
Get a sheet of 600 grit wet and dry on that. Whack a touch of bat wax and your laughing!
-
I agree with Chad, finishing does not look top quality...but hopefully it will play the part as you expect from any M&H bats

Ha, the thought did cross my mind. :D
After some more knocking, I will wax the back of the bat.

I don't think so, I've seen it on quite a few M+H's recently that their finishing isn't up to 'scratch'

Love that profile, nice high middle

How long did it take to knock or prepare the bat?
-
Just used my Amplus for the first time this W/E , 1 off the toe, 6, 2 right out of the middle cleared the ground. The high middle is great, I play on synthetic turf. The middle is definitely long.
The finish on the back of the bat, well, as stated here already, pretty ordinary.

I did exactly the same but with buying all the master as well. I sent it back just under a month ago after feeling that it wasn't my cup of tea, still haven't received a refund from them :S On terms of what they 'forgot' in finishing of your bat, I think they must forget about refunds too ;)
-
Much of the comments about finishing I agree with 110%.
Further if you own one like I do your comments are even more valid?
If you bat with one lucky you, best bat I've ever used!
-
the amplus was one of those bats M and H got right, very different when it first came out as it had such a high middle which you would not think would be suitable
but ive used one and 3 other team mates have them and rave about them
-
Have to agree with a lot of comments here.
Fantastic ping, long middle, good balance, beautiful profile, expertly made but rough finish and overpriced.
I absolutely love mine :D
