I have been always tempted to get a Laver and Wood bat. So finally used the Facebook offer on Special reserve and asked for below specs
Short Handle - Regular Cane handle (was not sure how the honeycomb would feel)
Standard Blade
Profile: Chad Tung
Weight: 2-10
Sweet spot: Mid - extended
Knocking in: Yes
Toe guard: Yes
Facing: Yes
Willow Grade: Special Reserve
Received the bat after 3 weeks and that was 2-12 with Cric HQ stickers, honeycomb handle and the MEGA profile. Basically L&W guys shipped me the wrong bat.
Anthony acknodwledged that and offered an upgrade to private bin (instead of refunding my return shipment of Cric HQ bat)
I took the upgarde option and got this bat. The weight is 2-9 , so i guess has the room for weight gain, 11 grains, picks up true to the weight so no issues with that , ping is nice (should open up with usage).
Not sure when will i use this bat as i don't forsee playing for atleast next 6 months (even though i live in Sunshine state - Florida)
Here are the pics -

That's a beautiful bat mate, hope it serves you well when you finally get around to using it.
Almost looks to good to hit any balls with it!
-
Everyone should try and own a Laver in their days. Mine has become thoroughly indispensable
-
Gorgeous bat 12breakfree.
If you don't mind me asking when did you order this bat? I'm in Canada waiting for my private bin to arrive so I'm just trying to figure out how long it might take to get here.
-
Shipment delivery time was 5 days.
Bat was prepared in 2 weeks from the day order was placed. So 3 weeks total
They are busy though considering season is going to start in the Southern Hemisphere
So anywhere from 3-4 weeks
My first bat got held up in customs for 3 days.
No custom charges were applied though
-
No customs charges!! Damn I hope I have similar a experience. Thanks for the info. Seeing your pictures just makes me more excited to get my bat here.
Hope it goes well for you. Did you have it knocked in? How is the ping?
-
I did get it knocked in. Ping is good and for sure will improve with usage.
Me previous match bat was from blank bats and and that had a top quality ping. This may get to that level but needs time.
The bat is nice and i am a happy customer . Just want to say that sometimes buyers may have over the top expectations from L&W and after that there can be disappointment if the bat is not a gun from day 1.
Top of the range bats from most of the CBF bat makers can be compared to l&w but then as a i said in my previous post owning bat from this brand was a long time want :)
-
Very nice looking bat, sweet spot is pretty high...good for bouncy pitches. I heard very mixed reviews about L&W and always very skeptical about buying one..
-
I asked for mid extended sweet spot and sometime pictures may not show the correct location
Has good amount of wood from toe onwards.
Pressing is really good and top quality finish. Buy one but I'll say atleast go for private bin or up. Special reserve can also be a good buy. I can certainly understand the mixed reviews as I have seen many local players sending bats back to l&w for replacement .
They make quality bats but I think because of the volume of bats being made there can be some average bats too as at the end of the day wood quality is also important.
I'll post some more pics tomorrow as I am liking this bat the more i see it or bounce ball on it :)
-
Am I they only one who thinks they should change the name from private bin to something else.
-
I think that 'Private Bin' is a great model name.
-
Nice Looking bat there i12breakfree...... Have 2 lavers at the moment one reserve and one special reserve. I got it during the start of the season, even though its knocked in, the bat didn't really open up till half way through the season. now the reserve is a gun and in the last match my mate used the special reserve and got a ton. I think laver presses the bats so that even though they might take time to open up but to last longer.
-
I think laver presses the bats so that even though they might take time to open up but to last longer.
ive never really understood this. Once its 'opened up' surely it lasts as long as any other bat that's opened up. So if i buy a bat that needs a bit of knocking in but performs from the start, ive not wasted time playing with an underperforming bat until it 'opens up'. Right?
-
True that Stuey, But when talked to Laver and his team when ordering the bat, those are the same words they said. My experience, even after Laver is knocked in by the manufacturer, it still doesn't feel comfortable, I played about 50 overs including games and practice then the bat seems like responding good. ???
-
Lovely profile, seems like people really like that profile! I take all credit for it. :D

time to get a patent :)

Haha I actually asked them to copy the profile of a bat, then got something a little different, but loved it, so it stayed! Cracking bat, and will have a long playing area, and knowing Laver, an excellent balance and pick up. :) Hope you enjoy using it!
With regards to the pressing, I've found both my Reserves to go right from the beginning. I've still not used my most recent one, but it responds just as well as the used one. My Private Bin and Special Reserves all took a little longer to get going, but cracking bats nonetheless.

The thread is back from the dead!!
So I've always wanted this "Chad" profile (had been hoping that the man himself would be selling his Lavers, but no luck), and when I saw the bat up for sale in the Sales section, I had to grab it. @i12breakfree was kind enough to send over the bat in 2 days, and to get an unused (but fully knocked) Laver G1 for that price was a real steal.
I normally use SSH, very thick oval handles, so cut an inch off the top, and spent a few hours adding two more layers of twine (some nice blisters on my fingers now) and then added a thick coil grip to complete the handle set up.
Just a few thoughts on the bat, in addition to whats already been said..
1. The profile reminds me of a fatter Flare
2. For those who want a really light pick up, the middle position (high, on this bat) alone won't do it. You'll probably need to ask for minimal (2ish mm) of concaving. This bat is almost domed, and so it does feel its weight, and does NOT pick up lighter (but I knew this before buying the bat).
3. Ping is top notch as already mentioned, but you can tell that the bat is "holding something back", and so I'm eager to see how it fares after a few net sessions, once it begins to open up.
4. Something to be said about Laver and Wood's knocking in service - I think its the best out there. VERY hard to dent the bat, and its a job well done.
Overall very happy. These guys really do know what they're doing.

^ Lucky man!

Had my laver and wood six years and it is easily the most borrowed bat at the club. It put on a lot of weight until it was 3lb but no one ever said it was heavy. Still going, I have had weight taken out by another company recently and its lost something, I'm hoping it just needs to open up again as they did a full refurbish and took a bit off the face.
-
Hi Brokenbat,
Your words are very precise regarding Laver. I have been using Laver Reserve from 4 years and believe me its most borrowed bat among my teammates.
-
Man i love this profile.
