Title: B&S Limited Edition (Clarke Profile)
Post by: Chad on September 21, 2014, 12:31:59 AM
Hi guys, sorry it's taken me so long to upload proper pictures and a short review of this, but here it is!

So, I won this from the B&S Sponsored Charity 'What's in your kitbag' competition. (Thanks to all who voted!) As you can see, it is a lovely bat, weighing in at around 2lb 10.7oz with around 11 straight and pretty clean grains, with a knot/blemish above the main playing area. The edges are pretty thick, I'd guess around the 35mm mark after rounding. I've pretty much oiled and knocked this bat in fully over a pretty long period of time, and just need to order some scuff sheets to complete the prep! I really like this shape, it's a reasonably long playing area, with a good sized spine and no concaving whatsoever. Definitely resembles the Clarke profile, just without any concaving at all, and at a slightly higher weight. Really looking forward to University nets starting, as I really want to give this bat a good shot!

It's not too dissimilar to the ST profiled B&S I received from Uzi, which was apparently a test player's reject. Just a bit slimmer in some areas, both cracking bats. Looking at the old profile picture of the ST one, I kind of regret taking weight off it now! Excellent profiles from B&S!

That is a lovely profile .
It will be interesting if we can have an interview with b&s batmaker.
Don't think many people know about their manufacturing details.
Enjoi your amazing bat chad.

How is the pickup on this bat? does it feel lighter than its weight or about the same?

Yup, shame about the ST one, as it packed a punch! It still does, but not as much due to the 2 ounces removed! Still a cracking profile at the moment! Probably a bit nicer in terms of response compared to the Clarke one. :)

Thanks Amit, will make sure I give it a good shot!

Erm, hard to say. I would just say it picks up well and is balanced for me. Different for other people. Would probably have guessed a weight of around 2.10.

Hey Chad interesting to hear once your uni nets start how forgiving the middle is of the Clarke profile vs the ST. Useful feedback For anyone looking at the profiles for the 2015 range

Lovley bats but to put them in the same bracket Clarke which I don't think this resembles that much after seeing a few real Clarkes profile.

Not to detract from a brilliant looking bat
Clarke profile from a 400 cleft would weight around 2-10 but a ST Profile from the same cleft would be around 3-2.

The Clarke profile comes from a sareen prototype profile orginally

Totally different bats with vastly different volumes used of wood.

Away from anything this bat looks a very very nice profile indeed you have some great bats chad mate

As I have said the last brand I want to try and haven't Bellingham make great bats a couple of my mates use and rate them highly

On his request when he met with Mick Bellingham when M C toured South Africa it was to take the S T shape which has no concaving and concave it just enough to make the pick up feel less bottom heavy and that's what he did I must also add this was several years ago as I don't know what the current M C shape looks like now it is the shape that was made for him then.

Having tapped them up, I would say the Clarke one has a more concentrated middle, but the hitting area is pretty big! The ST has a nice playing area all round, but if I didn't remove the weight, it would be the better performer hands down. Shame I couldn't handle the weight!

Fair enough, I'm sure Clarke's profile has evolved over the years, and I noticed there have been differences from the Spartan he uses and this one. (Most notably the concaving and lack of a duckbill toe) Regardless, it is a cracking shape like you said!
