So Kookaburra have stretched the range and for 2015 have added in a Pro Players grade for the Instinct, Kahuna and Verve models.
This is available in retailers for £590. The Players is £420.
Limited to 25 bats each model, which makes it less limited in general.
Thoughts everyone?

£600 is quite frankly pathetic for a cricket bat.
-
£590?!
Have some of these retailers lost their minds?!
-
To be fair to the retailers and why I didn't use one as an example, their price will be influenced by the trade price from Kookaburra.

Yes, I was going to say. We simply don't have a choice if we want a profit margin on this bat. However, we have a choice whether or not we want to stock them, and we have chosen not to because we believe they don't offer very good value for money when compared to many other top grade bats on the market! Is a retailer losing their mind by stocking them? I guess it depends on their clientele...

Scary price!!
That's two or three top quality bats money

There has to be a direct relationship between the big brands who pay players vast sums to have their products on TV,gn,gm,look and the massive prices for modern bats.
They recoup the sponsorship thru the average cricketer, and some will buy this bat in the hope it makes them a better player-it won't.
Are you actually getting a better bat than a £200 bat from a small manufacturer? I don't think so
Small uk based batmakers are surviving in a competitive market without tv exposure or sponsoring pro's
In fact if you look around your own leagues, and this forum is UK wide don't you think the number of UK hand made bats is on the increase??
-
I think in the internet age,,the ability to look up reviews etc of smaller brand bats has opened people's eyes to just what's out there, in terms of quality and value for money
I know people will pay that sort of money for a kook,or Gray nicks legend but with a little bit of research the smaller batmakers offer some amazing bats that will perform as good if not better for a fraction of that.

You would have thought so, but for ever one of these there are many who don't and pay more.

If they're being sold for £590 dare I ask what the RRP is?? :o

The small matter of £750! :o I agree, it's ridiculous. The GN Legend is a mere £700 RRP next year!! ;)

Where is it made, Paul? For that price, I'd want two! Like the Kahuna twins!

In 5 years time will bats RRP at £1000?

A £700 bat with no customization options? Sounds like madness but then again I saw a bat cover for £190 pounds on here somewhere so these will probably sell like hot cakes lol.
-
Save over £200 and get an affinity custom....... Simple!!!
-
Or for the same price get 3 G1 Hunts customs from Jake plus change!
-
Yes, it makes even some other sub-£400 boutique bats seem better value all of a sudden.
Be interesting to see how much the price reduces. The big brands tend to start high and reduce steadily throughout the season, whilst the custom brands have a shallower curve, if any.

Got 4 affinity's though and they are all absolute cannons!!
That being said for 165 quid I may have to give uncle tony a go!! ;)

Uncle Tony is ready and waiting, he has just finished up a wonderful Insignia for a forum member. Pics to come soon.
As for the Pro Players, it wasn't mentioned much by the Kookaburra reps at the trade show, and i don't recall seeing a sample. We have ordered one though. Much like with the GN Legend, there is always someone out there who decides this is the bat for them, and some people are lucky enough for money to be almost no object.
I am sure it will be absolutely stunning to look at, and I am quite excited to handpick it. Is it value for money? Personally i feel no but that isn't the thing that every customer wants. Some want the exclusivity of a very rare bat, others want to say 'I own the most expensive bat in the range' - each to their own.
Equally it may sit on our shelves for a long time in which case it will go on sale and someone will bag a healthy discount

quite a lot of money tied up if it does sit on the shelf for a while!
-
but a good discount for the forum member if it gets that far ;)
-
huge amount of money for a bat
but like jake says, there are those out there who are willing to spend high amounts on their bats. so defo each to their own.
just frustrating that manufacturers are creating "these high end models", limiting them and then charging such high prices. especially so, given this very same willow would have been available in previous years at reasonable prices.
-
As a standalone number, it is a fairly large amount of money. In the context of our 2015 Kookaburra stock order, it isn't very much at all.
