Title: Aussie Matador Cup
Post by: Alvaro on October 14, 2014, 08:55:18 PM
I'm quite enjoying this comp with the highlights on YouTube.

This is a great shot by Ben cutting – he can hit a loooong ball.

Queensland looking strong.

Yeah, watched a bit of it yesterday. The main problem is that the boundaries at North Sydney are club boundaries, so 300 is below par. Nice to see Cummins bowling again.

Not just the English game struggling for crowds then.

Yeah, it wasn't the best scheduling on a Wednesday when it was almost certain to rain

Is this the equivalent of the one day cup in England? Or is it just a warm up/pre season event?

Its the state one day competition, but its set up in a tournament format over a few weeks and over a few grounds, to best replicate a world cup type environment to prepare players the best.

Yeah North Sydney is so small so every score is so exaggerated there. Does make for some interesting batting in the last 10 overs though.

Is it bad that as an Englishman I find the Aussie domestic one-day comp fair more entertaining then the English one and the standard is better....
Quicker bowlers
Bigger hitters
Better fielders, Matthew Wade's run out was sheer brilliance

I forgot about the Wade run out, one of the best keeper efforts ive seen. Wade's incredible run-out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXJCdg3FUEw#ws)

One of the main reasons that we'd like to watch it is because it's a completely different viewing to ours, different will always capture attention. As for the standard being better, that's also probably down to the fact that we have far more sides than the Australian's. They've only got to field the best 6 sides from the states which is going to create a higher standard from a sport which I'd say 95% of Australian's take an interest in, in some way or another.

Youtube might be your best bet, or Cricket Australia's website is normally good for an online feed when a game is on live!

The channel GEM is seriously confusing me, can't get it on a tele in a different room? It finds the channel just doesn't pick up a picture..

The bear Cam White with yet another fifty today for Vics. Crazy stats over the past two seasons in OD cricket

What an innings by Ben Dunk! 229 not out in 50 overs. I reckon he'll have a decent average this season...

And Tasmania's total of almost 400 still wasn't good enough. Queensland chased it down with about 2 overseas to spare!

That's the issue at playing at such a small groud, tons of runs it is essentially a batters safe haven!

Don't they play there every year though? No one has got a double ton before!

When Khawaga is hitting them at 150 SR I think you have to take it all with a pinch of salt, a lot of them shots would have been caught on the fence on a proper sized ground. Plus pitch looked to be an absolute road, little bit of spin but not a lot else tbh.

But well bowled James Hopes, 10 overs for 38 in amongst the carnage.

Does anybody know why they're holding the comp at effectively an out ground and not one of the proper grounds?

I Imagine most grounds are being repaired after Aussie rules and the drop in pitches need time to settle.

blokes just made 200+ and people knocking it because it was made on a smallish ground, jeez tough crowd in here

The whole ground is favoring the batsmen. Flat pitch, short boundaries and a fast outfield. If you get it past the fielder in the ring, it's 4 runs.

Who cares? Don't blame the bloke for making use of the conditions he has had put in front of him! Can only play what is in front of you. Just enjoy the hitting!
