Title: What makes a bat look good?
Post by: FineEdgeCricket on October 20, 2014, 01:36:53 PM
This post is purely related to the appearance of a bat and not the quality.

What do you find attractive in a bat? A full set of clear aesthetically pleasing stickers? A burn/stamp on the edge?

What makes a bat look complete and add to the professional look we all want?

...When it is held by Danni Wyatt.

But in all serious, too many bats are rushed and not given the little touches. A bat with the finishing of Salix, Detailing of H4L and styling of Affinity would be a winner in my eyes.

Clean grains and minimalist stickers and white grip. For example i think the GN retro or heritage range in much better looking than their mainstream branding

Even, straight grains, be there 6 or 16, and I don't personally mind heartwood, as long as its straight.

Stickers can look good in many colours, but I prefer a logo to initials or wording and understated branding - some bats you can't see the wood for the branding...

A nice finish to the bat.

A single tone, one colour grip.

For me there is a difference between what looks good in a shop and what looks good when it is made to look like a wand by a quality batsman.

seeing a bat which has scored 1000 runs - mostly off the middle always looks good, regadless of branding and finishing.

I agree Buzz, both are important in my opinion.

Really minimalist stickers that are not too flashy or take up loads of wood. Let the wood do the talking!

A very clear branding structure too! Too many companies how so many names, acronyms grades etc. All designed to give the consumer the feel of added value but really offer little for all that confusion.

Even things like bat names. Far far too much time and effort is placed around that kind of thing. If you like the look you buy it regardless of its name.

Either make the names fit your brand name etc or just call it bat 1 bat 2.  IMHO

Some well placed Scoops with perfectly designed and understated decals stickers/branding always enhance the way a bat looks.

When it's stuck onto a bra of a beautiful girl?
No seriously for me it's quite a lot of grains and a decent bow-i can't really look at a dead straight blade and think it looks good
Just gone back to a salix I got second hand
Nice bow, even grains and when you pick it up it just looks good
It's a falx model

Gotta agree

Can't bring myself to send my Affinity Toro off for a refurb,,1300 runs has given it a lovely patina

Clean grains with an even strip of hearwoood that runs dead straight down the edges 2-3cm max with a lovely white blade or a blade with a little character the odd little speck. White grip and minimal stickers ideally.
