Title: Taping the grip
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on October 22, 2014, 08:19:09 PM
Now this is possibly a pointless post (and in probably being thick) but does putting a strip of tape round the bottom of a grip actually do anything?

I've seen a grip ride up and take the tape with it, so is it merely cosmetic? If so, is there anything other than gripgrip I can use to prevent this happening??

Same as gripgrip I've used it since Dean mentioned it mate

if the grips riding up its probably due for a change but I did have a bat that had very steep shoulders and the grip wouldn't stay. I used electrical tape under the grip and spotted a couple of drops of super glue on it and rolled the grip back down on top. Held it well. When you come to change the grip you just need to cut the tape off.

Honestly in my experience, tape does nothing.  I prefer being able to roll the grip back down if it's riding up, and I've torn 5-6 grips when I've taken tape off!

Tape is a total waste of time and I take it straight off any new bat I get. I think it looks better and if it's been rollled down enough is shouldn't roll back up. If it does it's very quickly sorted. No horrible glue marks left either when it comes off. To me it's as bad a tucking your trousers into your socks when batting!

I don,t bother using tape on the grip just UHU glue on the bottom of the handle works a treat.

I agree. No need of tapes if its rolled properly.

I really thought it was me that couldn't get the tape to work

WalkingWicket - Use GripGrip. You can check the stuff out on Google. New technology which guarantees the long lasting grip position. No more grip fiddling as they say!

At £7 a roll I can cope with my grip riding up mate!  ;)

Haha, very fair point. I have a similar view. It does work efficiently and on several bats though.

As I understand it GripGrip is just amalgamating tape. You can get it from any DIY/ plumb trade counter. A single role would do you 50 bats I recon.

I'm not 100% about the texture and quality of amalgamating tape. You're best of emailing the guys at GG. Rob and co are good guys who will be honest with you.

Somehow I can't see a business owner saying "yeah, it's just self amalgamating tape on a smaller roll and in a different packet, save yourself some money and don't buy our product"

Or maybe I'm just being cynical again...  :D

Of course mate...But worth having a chat and see there response. Have you actually seen/used GripGrip? It would be interesting to compare the products like for like. As I haven't seen the tape you're talking about, I wouldn't be able comment.

Yes it came to the forum quite a while ago, many forum members are happy with their purchases from us.

It's thinner than other self amalgamating tape that I've seen, thats not see i've extensively browsed the aisles at my local plumbing trade centre of course

I have used self amalgamating tape as its easy to find rather than pay silly amounts to ship grip grip here and to be honest it didn't really work well for me. Grip still rolled up just as frequently, I haven't tried grip grip so unless someone who has tried both methods says it's better I'll go back to old fashioned fix the grip when it rolls up method.

Tushar Sehgal - All my bats come equipped with GripGrip as well as my personal bat. Having used it for around a season, I have had no problems at all with my grip. I haven't had to fiddle with my grip as it remains in the same position. Hence, It's constantly aesthetically pleasing. But you should go on their website for more info.

I'll keep my eye open so I can get it shipped with some other item if I can in future

My point was more around the fact that self amalgamating tape didn't work for me.

In the interests of fairness to GripGrip, I went and tried amalgamating tape and found it useless. My assumption was quite wrong!

Yeah but for £7 you need not bother with it again until your grip wears out. No more getting caught short by a sudden collapse of wickets whilst you are reapplying your grip.
