Title: New TON Reserve
Post by: CrickFreak on October 24, 2014, 07:35:36 PM
So...... no cricket but the bat buying continues.....

Recently OLS posted some bats on their facebook page and couldnt resist the TON Reserve. I had discount coupon so the TON Reserve was in buying range :)
Lately have fallen in 'love' with SS/TON bats and bats in general from Indian bat makers. Started with SS DK, then SF Optimus and now this one... All top sticks, best I have seen. The grains, balance, pickup, ping etc is just exceptional, even the finish is pretty good. I guess the top of the range are all special. This is my second bat from OLS and very impressed.
Unfortunately one of these will have to go :( mostly SF.... :(

Ok back to the bat......

If I am buying a bat online, then I am very particular about weight regardless of what the retailer says. Weighs blah blah picks up blah blah... Pickup is very relative, depends on individual's strength, where they grip the bat, backlift etc... So the best way to avoid disappointment is to stick to your preferred weight, atleast it wont pick up heavier than the dead weight (hopefully!!)

Bat specs -
1. Weight - 2lb 9oz. My preferred weight is 2lb 7-8oz. My SS DK weighs 2lb 9oz but picks up very nicely. Having owned one 2lb 9oz bat, I was sure that this will have a great pickup as well.
2. Grains - 12 nice straight grains all the way to the back
3. Bow - Nice even bow
4. Ping - Really impressed especially from a new bat. But it doesnt hit the ceiling though LOL
5. Concaving - I guess none, atleast to me
6. Edges and spine - 42 mm and ~64 mm. Never on my list of ask but always good to see a big bat :)
7. Handle - Handle is quite thick compared to what I have seen on SS bats. Its round, thicker at the bottom but tapers towards the end. Feels nice.

And finally the pics.... Not too creative with pics like some on here :) but does the job....

Never been a Big fan of the standard SS super concaved shapes, but i do like this fuller profile, and the grains on this one are near perfect. If it goes half as good as it looks you're in luck,

Top looking bat. I'd really love to hear how she goes. I've been very tempted to grab myself a Ton Reserve - and this one looks sexy as hell.

Lovely looking bat, anyone else think the orange toe guard doesn't go with the stickers/grip or am i just being weird?

The toe guard was not there in the original pics. OLS put it on there. I was furious too.

About 7-10 days, and it depends what you order as to how much postage is.

It'd be easier to look yourself bud, it calculates the shipping by where you are and what's in your basket.
You could've probably got a quote in the time it took me to reply to your questions its that easy  :)

Paid 12 bucks. The bat was in stock so got it delivered in less than 5 days to US.

Just thought I would share my initial experience after i have used it few times in the nets.
Dislikes - Its just a tad bottom heavy, just a little. Maybe because I am used to 2lb 7-8oz and this one is 2lb 9oz. You can feel it while playing cross bat shots. Have 2 more months to get used to it.
Likes - Everything. The ball just rockets off the bat. I can barely feel the ball even the ones which are off center. It just makes a different sound, more like hitting a tennis ball.
This bat was not properly knocked in (the traditional way). And i dont really believe too much in knocking the middle. The edges and toe were knocked for an hour or so.

If it's too heavy for you, I will have it off you!

My friend bought on of these. Pings superb. he did mention it as bottom heavy and after couple of months got rid of his - he is too choosy.
I'll love to buy one for myself but they are not cheap :)
