Title: 'X' shoulder stamp
Post by: Gingerbusiness on October 26, 2014, 11:29:04 AM
Hi all,

Does anyone know what an X on the shoulder stamp means?

Most have a letter in a box but this is just an X.

Any ideas?

Made by Chris King as I understand it,  in Robertsbridge.

And, for my own piece of mind, that is a very good thing?

He is GN bat workshop on Twitter. I'd assume it's a very good thing.

Yes, he makes the Pros' bats and designs some of the shapes, like the Nemesis.  As far as I am aware, he is the main GN bat maker here in the UK...

Wow. Ill take that.

I was hoping it would be something good - not a factory second or something worse...

Finally, a bit of bat luck!

I will too, my Oblivion LE has an X on the shoulder. The guy who I bought it off said it was a Robertsbridge custom at least I know it's probably true now

My custom dynadrive has the same maker's mark and is a fabulous piece of willow so I imagine that your custom oblivion is also pretty nice...

It's a LH Tim, don't think it would have anyone drooling over it's looks, probably 40% heartwood, but the pick up and performance are both excellent! I'll try upload a picture or 2

Et Voila!

I think the photo at the bottom is interesting - The Legend Vs The Airstream Vs The Pod.

Arguably three of the best bats currently on the market.

eBay pays off SOME of the time.

I have been using it for 15 years and even now, you have to be so careful of scams, idiots etc.

So what do the stamp mark which i think is O but maybe Q  mean
Title: Re: 'X' shoulder stamp
Post by: thebigginge on June 30, 2015, 06:50:28 AM
Shoulder stamps are used as so that bats can be dated from there point/location of manufacture.

These stamps vary over each production year. Some makers will stick to one stamp, others will change around.

Regards

Alex

Just came across this old post when searching about shoulder stamps.  I got this bat last year and wondered what the x in a box meant. Is it similar to the original post? Thanks

Have a look at this thread as well.

http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=39623.0 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=39623.0)

Usually a letter stamp inside a box is the year of manufacture, but sometimes there are 2 stamps as mentioned in the thread.

I believe the theory was that the X (without a box) was the mark of a very well regarded GN bat maker at Robertsbridge.
