Title: Bat mallet question
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on October 26, 2014, 08:16:37 PM
Evening all

As I've been described as a pikey by someone who shall remain nameless, this may be living up to that!

However, here goes:
With all these posh Oak and Lignum Vitae mallets popping up, I've been thinking.
Is it the density of the wood that makes the difference with these, or is it purely down to weight?
The Oak or Lignum Vitae mallets weight 700g and upwards, my £5 mallet (made of I don't know what wood) weighs 369g.

Could I add strips of lead tape (the stuff you'd put on golf clubs) to the head or hold I just stop being so tight and pay out for a proper 'professional' mallet?

For reference, my generic bat mallet purchased from my local sports shop about 8 years ago!

Nice grains, but it isn't a G1 mallet as theres a sizeable blemish on the hitting area!  :D

Precisely weighed using the kitchen scales  ;)

Nothing wrong with that mallet. The longer handle will allow for a faster mallet head speed which will make a difference too...!

I have the same mallet and you have to hit extra hard with this, it leaves very small indentations. If you can out your bat on a stable base - like an older set of pillows, you will get better strike efficiency.
