Having seen John's great pricing I got in touch with him to see what he could do in relation to oversize clefts. I'd decided that I wanted an old style Tempo shape. He had a bit of a dig around and turned up an X3 grade that would suffice, so telling him I wanted Long blade and an oval handle, and that typically my bats are 2'10 to 2'12, I left him to it.
I got a few messages letting me know how he was getting on and then a nice brown box turned up at work. When I finally got it out, the below turned up. It picks up similarly to my velocity but the middle position seems slightly higher, and it weighs an ounce or so more.
The finishing is excellent. Now I just need to knock it in and get it into the nets! But here are the pictures you've been waiting for....

Wow that is a great looking bat. It's making it really hard to not buy

Lovely looking bat and why is that a grade 3?? That looks much nicer than some of the G1's I have seen even with the blemishes on the back!!

What a nice piece of willow being grade 3? mate how is the ping of the bat?

Where have I seen a bat looking a bit like that before!!! Looks great!! Now that the original Tempo is gone, RI (Red Ink) is one of the only places you can get an oversized cleft!
Mine has come very good after knocking in at IJC!!

CAn't really comment on ping yet. I've bounced a ball of it and it seems to be up there with the rest of the bats I own. I know that John presses his own clefts, so it has every chance of being one of the best!
As for wood quality. John has chosen to class this as X3. There are certain "Players" graded bats that look worse...!

I really like the cross section profile. It's the perfect balance between edge size and spine height with just a hint of concaving. If I was after another bat, I would probably ask for something like this but with a higher middle for an even better pickup. But that's a super looking bat. Enjoy!
