when batting do you Always wear spikes?
I need new boots but not sure to get artificials or spikes.
For fielding i have 2 pairs of boots, for if we play on a artificial wicket or on grass. But they are more like running shoes so not usefull for batting. (need to protect my toes)
So my question is:
What do you prefer and what make?
thank you
-
for batting I've always preferred half and halves - they give you sufficient grip but keep you light on your feet.
-
I always bat in a full spike batting spike as you break on your heal so don't want to run the risk of slipping and giving your wicket away
-
I have had my big toe on my right foot broken 3 years ago, and my left broken last season! Therefore for the rest of the season I wore a light pair of trainers wit steel toecaps!
They were light but my toes were safe from any future breaks!! I would prefer spikes for batting as there is more grip for running between the wickets and turning.
But number one priority for me is NO MORE BROKEN TOES!!!

Full spikes for me and I use Asics gel gullys they have extra leather on the toe for added protection. Personally I don't think you can beat Asics shoes. I have 2 pairs on Nike century batting shoes and so much heavier
-
I always use Asics, half spiked when I play on grass and have a pair of hardwicket for artificial wickets. Got annoyed changing my spikes to rubbers all the time.
I like the harder toe section on the Asics shoes
-
Spikes and NB
Hate rubbers, despise when we play on artificial
-
Always wear spikes when batting on grass. Too often it can be slippery, even when dry, so want the grip.
-
addidas 22yard bowling boots very good protection. change to soft spikes for artificial or nets Ive a second pair with softs for nets
-
I always go for a pair of asics spikes. Usually a pair of Gel Advance 2s half spiked up.
If we're playing on a wet pitch ice got a pair of Gell 335s fully spiked that I use, but I find the Gel Advance more comfortable, hence wearing them more.
I've also tried Puma, GN and Slazenger spiked and have found asics the best so far.

full spikes normally. If it's dry then I'll just wear bog standard trainers. Yet to be hit on the foot as I have a bat

Full spikes
Asics

Welcome back by the way Leonie, after over a year without posting I thought we'd scared you off haha :D

I always bat in trainers and field in spikes. I feel that I can slide my back foot back into the crease and avoid being stumped if I wear trainers. However, I was run out 6 times last season and at least half of those was down to the fact I was wearing trainers. On the flip, side I wasn't stumped once.... Result.

Only ever play on grass, but have some rubbers for those very dry days which makes the ground too hard for spikes. Obviously rarely used in England, bet there are the odd days. I would probably use them for astroturf wickets.
I have a Kookaburra pair, very comfortable, light and have decent leather protection on the toe.
-
I was wearing asics full spikes for batting but started getting a problem with the ball of my right foot as the spikes weren't going into the ground as it was that hard! I even took the spikes out of the area but didn't help. Started wearing NB rubbers and they were really good. It was always in dry conditions though, wouldn't fancy chancing it on damp grass!
-
I wear one pair of shoes for the whole game. Spikes in the front rubber in the back. This is because that's the way they turned up and couldn't be bothered to change them
-
bat in half spikes as ive seen a few people use full rubbers and fall flat on their face and I look silly enough when running
I use asics as found the offer decent toe protection as well
-
There was a law which stated you couldn't wear rubbers on turf wickets, only spikes. Not sure if it's changed or not.
-
Hate people wearing those hard round knobbly screw in soft rubbers on turf wickets they churn up the bowling footmarks far worse than proper spikes. Same for the batsmen using them. Horrible things
-
I wear my asics trainers for batting, unless there is a bit of moisture on the track, then it is my asics Gel Advance, half spike. I really prefer wearing trainers when batting as they are so light and I feel that my feet move properly in them. Even though the gel advances are very light, I just don't feel as comfortable in them, which I feel restricts my movement.
It's probably just a mental thing but then that is half the battle with cricket !

I've broken my left big toe twice now, the last time about 3 months ago and it seems to a be a vicious cycle of poor footwork, injury, and more poor footwork evidenced by an even greater tendency to close off the foot (such that toe is not presented in the intended direction). I agree no broke toes ranks higher than not getting running out as the latter does remain an issue especially on turning, but I also agree with another poster on here than you can slide your heel back to prevent stampings as well. So like petehosk, I went for a trainer with a toecap and it gives me confidence tho I have not been hit on the toe in the last 3 months. It has helped my footwork I believe. Pete, which trainers do you use. I struggled to find something light, strong and suitably inconspicuous and white. In the end, I got Mack Jupitor, a composite toe, which is about 50% heavier than a running shoe, and only a tad heavier than an all leather boot (cf my pumas)

I would like to see that copy of the laws.
-
I can't remember where I have seen it, it may have been a local law. I know rubbers are frowned upon because they burn the grass.
-
bURN THE GRASS.......you must be quicker between the wickets than me.
