Was intending to buy a Duffle & gloves from OS but don't know why inquired about the bats in stocks and ended up buying SS Gladiator. Firstly about the service, this time around the service from OS was really good, all my emails & inquiries were promptly answered, shared pics of the bat which I ultimately bought. I paid on Thursday, asked to knock it in a bit, was told it'll be shipped on Sat (which it did) and was delivered Monday afternoon at 2 PM, so super fast shipping, was my birthday the next day so was glad to have Gladiator with me on bed on my birthday!
Now about the bat, OS informed it was a special bat and was from batch for International sponsored player, not sure how much of it is true but the bat is excellent.
Specs -
1) Weight - exactly 2.10 (as requested)
2) Handle - Round
3) Profile - Player's fuller profile
4) Edges - 44-45mm, really huge, haven't seen such a size in flesh in this weight
5) Ping - Really good, better than any I had till date
6) Grains - 13 with slight heartwood on inside edge
7) Finish - really good finish, not at par with Laver or others though
8) Pressing - Soft pressed but not very soft
******Forgot to mention the Pickup)***********
9) Pickup - I would say around 2.9.5, it doesn't feel very light like 2.8/2.7 but definitely feels slightly light/almost equal to it's weight
So all in all a lovely piece of willow, sounds great from tapping the ball, ball does seem to fly from word go. Having paid nearly top of the money I would expect a top grade bat and this one certainly delivers, whether it was a player's bat it may well have been. This bat is huge in terms of amount of wood it has for 2.10, I had a few and have seen plenty of bats but I haven't come across a bat this huge. Profile is full and goes a long way from toe to splice, it is slightly more concaved near the toe & shoulders but the middle is fully non-concaved.
Apart from that bought SS LE sausage style gloves, lovely gloves, very soft and comfortable, finish is very good, very soft Pittard palms. The other thing was TON Duffle in CAMO style (which many on the forum might prefer) very similar to the UK TON Gladiator Elite Duffle. The difference being it does not have bat pocket in the main compartment but it is supposed to be the ones on both sides. Very comfortable duffle, padded straps, looks like it'll fit in my kit easily which does not include wicket keeping kit, with slight adjustment might fit in that as well. I'll let you enjoy the pictures now,

Wow thats a nice looking stick that bud, looks like a lot of wood for the weight.
Owning a pair of the gloves myself they're top quality, personally I prefer the Super Test gloves as they don't have petards, but you won't be disappointed with them mate.
And as for the bag, I love the design, but couldn't bring myself to buy one not knowing what the quality was like. As well as the bat sleeves is it also missing the padding on the back too?
-
Thanks mate, indeed a lot of wood for 2.10. The back is padded and comfortable, haven't put lot of stuff yet but looks comfy with padded straps & back.
-
For 2.10,, that's huuuge!
-
If you don't mind me asking, how much did OS charge to ship this gear to the UK for you?
-
Hi Mate, I am in Singapore atm, not sure of the exact charges, for bat it was GBP 12, for Gloves & Duffle he charged around GBP 50 (inclusive of shipping). You can have a look at the shipping calculator that they have on their website & can email and check for shipping options. As far as I feel shipping charges wouldn't vary much between Singapore to UK.
-
Ok mate, I'll go on the site and have a look. Thanks.
-
You got a nice looking bat there. I'm always on the Online Stockist website and just can seem to gather the courage to actually buy anything.
-
That's a seriously generous bat, with a stonking profile.
Hope it goes well for you :D
-
That bat looks amazing.Ive been looking at getting another SS around Christmas time with my bonus.I was very tempted to buy that duffle when I first saw the pictures on the online stockist page.Fortunately for me I got the ton duffle from pro direct for £23 the day I was going to order.
-
Wow!!! Great looking bat.
I have seen lot of international players using SS Gladiator bat so the stuff about this being from international batch could be true especially looking at the pics.
-
Geez thats some nice looking kit
-
How much it set you back?
-
Stunning piece of willow you've got yourself there matey. Have to say I'm not a fan of the duffle, if you put it down in the boundary you'd never find it 🙊
-
That is a beautiful bat. SS full profile bats are way better than then concaved ones.
Even my supplier in India has been sending some great pics of SS bats with full profile .
I am going to buy one soon for me :)

Ugh SS! Such fantastic bats, such dreadful overbranding. The SS on it's own could be iconic - I wish they would do a minimalistic set of stickers!

Agree with you Fattus they go overboard with the stickers on the back, I like the minimal stickers but the bat more than makes up for it.
cam66 i think there was an offer and it was GBP 240 delivered.
kal if you are apprehensive try them for soft goods, not a lot can go wrong with soft goods. Also ask for what is available in stock as that can be delivered within a few days, if you ask for something special it may take up some time (which has happened to me in past, took 2 weeks to arrive).
Mates glad you all liked the bat I am eager to take them to nets and see how does it go on the pitch.
-
Hey buddy, looks like you hit the jackpot for your birthday. Absolutely amazing specs and everything seems to be perfect. Hope it goes well for you!
-
How'd SS get the bat to those specs?
It looks such a full profile for that weight
-
Lovely bat in it's own right Am - does nyone know a rough idea of postage to UK for just pads and gloves?
-
amazing bat!

Think it was £19 for a pair of keeping gloves, keeping pads and 3 pairs of batting gloves, so about £15 at a guess.

Ta.

Nice bat but £240 !!!
How much are they selling for here in UK.

I think it is one of the top grades available (in India) from SS just next to TON Reserve. In UK they come with 3 grades I believe in Gladiator Players, Pro & Elite, I guess it would be in Elite grade as it is advertised as Grade 1++. Most of the UK made pro grade bat are sold higher than GBP 250 I believe. I was about to buy L&W Special reserve in about the same price but went with this Gladiator finally.
Kal indeed I am very happy with the bat, was surprised it was delivered a day before my Birthday, didn't anticipate & expect that, so was happy. My wife isn't with me in Singapore atm so were less complaints from her as well :-)

Very nice...
-
The one sold in UK are traditinal curve toe this one seems more square. Is there a reason or is it just SS being inconsistent.

SS - Indian Market
TON - UK Market
**Due to lawsuit with Stuart Surridge
Would make sense to tailor the shapes for the individual markets if you are already forced to change the branding.

So and so uses an SS Gladiator on telly, Mr UK based player likes the look of it so goes out and buys a TON Gladiator.

Yes very easily.

Lovely looking (and very similar to mine) SS from VKS again, but I had a perception that all SS/TON have TON branding at the back toe, was it specially/intentionally avoided to add those VKS srickers for you?
-

I believe these are more Indian/IPl players profile (not necessarily for them) and hence they might have the squarer toe, as discussed on other forum topic it is what IPL players prefer.

It is interesting though, because most marketeers would say that you need a really strong, clear brand identity. For the average consumer they could get pretty confused with it and not really know what to buy. Some people, me included before CBF thought that they were two different brands, with TON being some non trademarked thing.
