Title: What Really is Englands Best ODI side - can anyone predict it these days?

With the trip to Sri Lanka expecting to give a few fringe players an audition for a spot, it feels like you can perm a variety of XI's from the players in the mix.

Assuming everyone is fit - how do you get an starting line up from our 'talent'?

Unless I'm missing people, the batters seem to be -

Cook
Hales
Root
Moeen
Morgan
Bopara
Taylor
Bell

All Rounders -

Stokes
Buttler

Bowlers -

Gurney
Anderson
Broad
Woakes
Jordan
Finn
Tredwell

Not sure how you get a team out of that lot - but here is mine (and yes - I did mean to leave Jimmy out, and I'm assuming that Cook has to play!)

Cook
Hales
Moeen
Root
Morgan
Butler
Bopara
Woakes
Broad
Jordan
Finn

NB - personally I would leave Cook out for Bell, and use a spinner who can turn the ball away from the right-hander.

i dont think you are too far off there fattus.

i can see tredwell playing so they have 2 spinners because its in sri lanka, he would replace woakes or jordan i reckon

Hales
Root
Trott
Morgan
Taylor
Billings
Buttler
Tredwell/stokes
Broad
Finn
Anderson

Dependant on how confident you are for root and trott to share ten overs, you may have to swap trott or billings for moeen, dependant on if you want to be more attacking, or just use overs up.
if it wasn't for the need off bowlers, I'd open with Roy and move root to 3.

England are done in by their own conditions?

Too much ball jiggery buggery means that crashing from ball one is rarely on, so can't keep pace with rotw?

Think they're likely to go with

Cook
Hales
Bell
Root
Morgan
Moeen
Buttler
Woakes/Stokes
Jordan
Broad
Tredwell

Personally I'd like to see

Hales
Carberry
Taylor
Root
Morgan *
Buttlet +
Moeen
Stokes
Jordan
Briggs
Finn

Haha

I've just checked the seasons stats and am beginning to think I might be....

I swear Woakes had a really good limited overs season and I was very impressed with him...

Woakes is a really good cricketer. Most reassuring death bowler England have had in a while

Have a look at Stokes ODI form - it's poo! He's a much better test prospect.

I'd have him playing all 3 formats as a regular (and that's not just because I have a weird man crush on him)!

This world cup. Probably to soon.

But the next. He'll be back up keeper, if he isn't in atleast one limited overs side for his batting anyway.

Hales roy billings are The future of England limited overs sides.

I would not be surprised if it was Joe Root if it was due to an injury mid tournament.  He did a warm up game in Aus so the management now think he is a keeper as well as a batsman and off spinner.

As soon as Cook is no longer captain it will be Root.
"Okay Peter, you want me to bat, bowl, keep wicket and captain the side?"
