Title: Working without a vice?
Post by: TBONTB on November 17, 2014, 03:54:53 PM
Afternoon,

Any ideas on how to work without a vice? Could I clamp the bat down onto a table? I do not have a garage or anything so I cannot screw a vice into anything. What do you think? Any ideas?

Workmate of some variety. Although pad out the plastic jaws with something and weigh the bench down with sandbags if you can

You could watch some Indian bat making videos on you-tube, that should give you some ideas. If you've got good knees that is.

DIY stores sell strong plastic clamps they open to around 6 inches and are ideal for clampimg bats  to tables.

wilkinson's do this one for 20 quid that you can tighten on to any table, and then remove easily.

I did it without a vice, very tricky but you can push it against a wall and use your gut

I use a workmate.   Leave the old grips on the bats and clamp the handle. Might get some sand bags. Thanks for the idea.

I do not think it opens wide enough, it is 75mm and a bat is 108mm wide unfortunately otherwise it would be a good thing.

I've never tried it but you could screw a couple pieces of wood into whatever you're using as a bench at the toe and shoulders and use a wedge to hold the cleft tight although I'd recommend a good vice
