Again with an AGM coming up I thought this would be an interesting question to put to people?

I joined the club in at now as a kid because they ran coaching sessions at my school.
Poor guys have been stuck with me ever since.

Wicket and outfield come top for me, second is number of games and third is training facilities. Don't care about lvl as that seems random and there are people high up not good enough and there are people low down who could be etc. So as long as its a nice place to play, loads of games and I get to open.. Can't complain

I played at my club as a junior,p as it was nearest to my house, I then played in various places for various reasons that weren't my choices.
When the choice of club was mine, I went back to the club I was at as a junior because the people there were better, more fun, social, great banter etc than anywhere else I played, and have never wanted to move since.
I don't care that the outfield is on a slope, and the changing rooms are tiny, I play to enjoy myself, and I do thoroughly

ive have played at the same club since i was 9 im now 27. its in the village i grew up in and have been the groundsman for 10 years and have recently constructed our new square.
i played for another village 1 mile down the road as they have a league team but this is no longer an issue but will still play friendlies for both teams

Grew up there. The club put a lot of time and effort into developing me up to the age of 18.
The chairman has been like a 2nd dad to me - following my career and supporting during a few tough times.
I wasn't enjoying my cricket a few years ago in the HCPL, now I am back playing TVCL for my junior club and love it - taking 159 wickets in 44 league games in the last 3 seasons, with two promotions, does help...
The club does have nice playing facilities and a friendly atmosphere. It is very important to me that the boys do not take themselves, not the cricket, too seriously.
I miss cricket season! :( lol

I play for the club nearest to me. Simple. the guys there are a good bunch, we enjoy our cricket and the banter, we enjoy a few beers after nets and games. If they were a bunch of tools I would play for a different team. The facilities don't matter to me. I am a bit older though and you can't teach an old dog new tricks so coaching is of no interest.
If people enjoy it they stay.

What about the friendliness/attitude of the club members - it's important to me. Don't want to join a club of (No Swearing Please) holes!

Std of cricket ground pitch club etc what the club are aiming to do and do they have a good youth set with coaching then people at the club and the cost of playing in that order

I suppose nick, but just because you know someone doesn't mean they're not a pleb ;-)

Part of the reason for putting this up was to get views on what helps to recruit players. I'm of the opinion that good facilities attract good cricketers. Nobody wants to play on a rubbish deck with no sightscreens and a knackered pavilion. The only time such a club draws people in is where they pay players or have a social network that pulls players in ie. might be a very social club.
It's an interesting topic, is it worth spending money on facilities or is there more too it than that.

Success seems to attract players here, players on the move don't want to go to a struggling club.

Standard is the main thing for me. It's important to challenge yourself so that you're always trying to improve to the next level. Although I'd say in years to come when my body tells me to stop bowling fast, I'd say the convenience of location and subs/fee prices would be much more of a consideration.

My Dad played village cricket in 70's and 80's so I played for their youth team when about 11 years old, he then decided to play for his local club to where we lived, so I played for their youth teams progressing through the senior teams, at 16 (my age not his) he was asked to play for an Essex league side so again I followed him, now been at the club for 23 years and now my son plays in the under 9's can't see me ever moving clubs. My Dad still plays.

Clubs are what the players put into them, unfortunately it's more about individuals now.
