Title: New Gautam Gambhir gladiator full profile bat

Just got back from India last week and have to say was really Impressed with the new bats by SS and SG, even SF had a few rockets that were picked by India U-19 team guys while i was shopping.

After much deliberation between a TON Reserve edition , DK19 SS bat and this Gladiator i walked out of the shop after almost 2 hours.

I know not everyone will believe that by writing G Gambhir at the toe it would be his bat nor that i care. I bought this simply because it had the best pickup among the three.

Now all 3 were stunners in their own right but the DK 19 had V Rao(presumably Venugopal Rao) written at the toe and the SF was for Vijay Zol who did pick it up in front of my own eyes.

Nice shape!
Shame they forgot to sand the toe  ;)

And I prefer the TON stamps to the slanted S personally, but that's probably the least of your worries haha

That is a serious duckbill! I have to agree those S are a bit funny! But all the marker pen branding is a bit weird isn't it!

Love, love, love that profile!!!!! That is the Daddy for me at the moment.

Yes even i was intrigued by the slanted S as this was the only bat that had those marks in the shop.

The shopkeeper mentioned that it was from a batch of bats that were getting these logos and usually had Nike/MRF or different sponsor stickers put on them by the players.

Not that it matters actually makes it a little different and I like it

Duck bills are big now. Everybody's using them.

That's a seriously good profile. The non-concaved Indian profiled bats are just about the perfect shape!

There is a lot of mid and lower models from SS/TON that have this profile now as well.

I remember a SS ELXI (first time saw this model) which had the same exact specs but picked up around 2.10-2.11 and about a 200 bucks cheaper :)

bails are flying? Maybe SS need a new sponsored player for this shape...someone who can hit big sixes.  :D

good bat, but finishing doesn't look too good...toe could use more sanding to make it look better.

So, someone at SS does write on toe then it seems because in past we saw bats in UK with writing and now this.

Beautiful profile.

you are right Uzair! I have one which Kullusekara bat, I got it from Dave (ProcricketB3). That bat is still going like a GUN, 2.8 with 40mm edges.

Yes looks like that as i said there were more bats with names at the toe. I wasn't believing it either till the SF with Zol written on it got picked up by the actual player while i was there. Funny thing is there were 3 of the DR Smith SF bats and two were heavy ; well heavy for me as they were 1200 gms and one at 1180 which i was liking.
Apparently Zol just looked at the two with his name and apparently they were the exact weight he wanted so took them and left.
Which tells me this name writing could be mainly with weights rather than profile or he wasnt as picky as me as i was in there for almost 2.5 hrs :)

Yes the toe looks like it could have been better sanded but other than that the finishing is top notch.

Lovely bat, now I feel like to scratch the toe guard off my recent gladiator and see if it was meant for any pro.

A local sports shop has a AB bat (Kookaburra) that he used during the IPL and interestingly it has Virat written on the toe. Finishing on the bat is not great and but the pick up is brilliant. Was real tempted to bounce a ball on it but didn't want to mess up the signature on the face. Will try to get photos when I pass by there again.

I really, really love this profile - it seems very similar to the one Sanga uses.

Has anyone seen this profile in any of the less expensive SS bats at all?

I've got a Yuvi 20/20 in a similar profile

If you do not mind a slightly heavier weight than 2.8 -2.9 they have a beautiful SS ELXI that was just stunning for the price. Exactly same profile as this and
Around 2.10-2.11 i think with slight heartwood, I am already helping a bud get a Gladiator and some ss gloves and can see if you want it added.

Not sure why SS has soooooo many models. They need to streamline their product range.
Their quality not doubt improving with high end bats comparable or even better than other brands' high end bats.
It will be nice of they had only 4 or five models in SS range to keep things simple for buyers.

Lovely bat.

Just clarifying, is the slanted S going to replace the TON sign?
Title: Re: New Gautam Gambhir gladiator full profile bat
Post by: parthnayak on December 18, 2014, 10:51:17 AM
no, it aint... what i have heard, due to restrictions of ads in international matches, TON came up with this image to advertise their brand and comply with ICC too... and only selected few bats have it... but there is no plan to completely banish the TON image on their bats and use this image.
Title: Re: New Gautam Gambhir gladiator full profile bat
Post by: EaglesCC on December 18, 2014, 01:53:17 PM
I'm not sure that's accurate. From what I understood of it, TON is intended for the export (UK, etc) market and SS (Slanted S) is for subcontinent/ India. I could be wrong. I wouldn't have said it's to comply with ICC regs on branding as there are plenty of other subcontinent brands who haven't toned things down.

But I really like this shape. Never really got the idea of huge toes (for proper batsmen anyway).  :D ...and these bats generally pick up slightly lighter than their dead weight and have less concaving.

Anyone selling a used SS in this shape?  ;)

I think you're correct in what you say, TON for UK etc due to the name SS (Stuart Surridge) already existing, and SS for subcontinent/India.  I think the question being asked was more whether the slanted S is going to replace the SS to TON logo in either/or both markets?

Yeah you're right there mate.
SS stickers for Non-UK market, TON stickers for the UK market.

From my understanding, the TON stamp is for Sareen made bats with Sareen stickers, and the slanted S is for Sareen made bats with other makers stickers.
Not sure that's 100% set in stone though, as you still see the TON stamp on some bats with other makers stickers anyway.

It is true that most of the intl player bats will have their name written on the bottom. I recently bought few player bats from my supplier. They were made for upcoming world cup. Happy to share the pictures if someone can help with posting.

Cheers,
