Title: Cook removed as England ODI skipper
Post by: cricketbadger on December 19, 2014, 05:46:02 PM
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/30555167 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/30555167)

So he's not going to be captaining the team at the world cup, which then to me means, he wont even be going to the world cup as part of the final squad. Lets be honest, he was only in the team to captain it, its not for his dazzling ODI form and record

So who would you have as skipper if you had the choice? Looks like they've gone with Morgan

And who would you pick too open the batting in Cook's absence, if he is dropped from the side of course. I'm not sure they will be bold or brave enough to leave him out of the final squad

Captain Root!

Captain Morgan sounds like a rum brand.

TBH i cant see how they can select him having dropped him as skipper. I think they need Ballance in there, maybe drop Morgan but cant see them doing that. Its hard to see who they will open with, I dont think will put Hales in unless he scores some runs in the big bash. Could Luke Wright be a wild card, or even bring KP back .....or one step to far :)
one things for sure though the selectors have made a complete hash of the build up to the WC, Hales could have been given a good run in Sri Lanka and gained some momentum for the WC, instead we are back to square one!

Root as skipper.

Will post what I did in the other thread as it seems more relevant here.

Root has practically no captaincy experience. I don't think a tough tri-series and a world cup in the position we are in is the best place to get a taste of international (or any really) captaincy really and be experimenting with techniques and tactics.

Morgan seems to perform when he's captain so a chance for him to regain form perhaps as well.

Hopefully the lad goes away, focus's on 4 day cricket and tests. Good luck Mr Cook.

Now, how do we get rid of Clarke and Downton!!!!!!

Cric info has been reporting all day that clarke time may be up soon.
So that'll just leave Downton.........and  moores to go imo.

With Cook out, Morgan should be left out, and Broad as skipper

As long as Downton is fired.. not made President or whatever he's angling for with the ICC.. I also read somewhere someone is putting him forward for a Knighthood.. now I know they don't mean anything now but please god no

I read he was voted out and is leaving at the end of January however will remain our representative with the ICC and is hoping for a position higher up within it. Something like that.

Agreed.  Dont see Morgan as any better than Cook. On marginally better form, but past it now

Under no circumstances should Broad be made skipper - aside from being up himself, he proved witht eh T20 side that he was absolutely unremittingly terrible at the job.

Morgan is a decent bet.  Assuming Hales  regains form and that KPis not brought in from the cold I suspect that gives us a squad of:

Moeen Ali
Alex Hales
Gary Ballance
Joe Root
Ravi Bopara
Eoin Morgan
Jos Buttler
Stuart Broad
Chris Woakes
Chris Jordan
Jimmy Anderson
James Taylor
Steve Finn
James Tredwell
AN Other (Stokes? Bairstow?)

James Whitaker will be happy if the team are managed and coached well at the world cup :s

yeh sure thats exactly what all the fans want to hear, pay to go watch them, not bothered if they win, as long as moores does a good job and voaching sessions go well

what a load of (No Swearing Please), these people need to leave the england cricket team well alone

Morgan had a poor series again and I think his average is marginally worse than cooks. Sums up the england management.

Other than cook, all the other players have backed KP in all of it. All have said he was fine etc.. It was purely a political decision by the ECB and Downton
