Title: Nets in Scunthorpe / Sheffield
Post by: RF on December 19, 2014, 08:44:22 PM
Hi, I'm looking for some lads to have winter nets with in the Scunthorpe / Sheffield area.

My club's nets don't start till late Feb and I'm missing playing.

Anyone interested?

I'm from sheff and may be interested,

Where abouts in sheff are you? As there's a few net places about. And do you play in sheff?

Smiley you know I'll make one - if Headingly is a no go I'm up for something this way (maybe Dave, Ryan and Simmy would be up for it as it's not that far).

RT I live in Retford and put something out a week or so ago for the same reasons, maybe add to that thread mate?

I live in between Scunthorpe and Doncaster.
I play in the Lincolnshire League for a team called Outcasts.
It's about 35 /40 mins for me to get to Sheffield but that's no problem, there are no decent facilities in Scunthorpe.
I was thinking about going to Headingley on the Procoach course but it's a bit expensive.
Retford is about 30 mins from me as well, that could be an option, we play some teams from Gainsborough way on a Sunday

Hi mate

Round me the better facilities are Cuckney cc (on the way to Mansfield) or Dotball at M1 J31 as I work up the A1 off the M62 that's also an option. We'll see on anymore posts on both threads and see if we can get consensus

I'm actually at dotball.

May see what time there open over Xmas, then try to book something.

If it's popular may try book one weekly. Although have to be a Tuesday or Thursday for me at mo.

Haha can't say I'm surprised guess the question is which bat you using! Dates would be good mate

Russ don't worry buddy it's just a who's up for it forum thing, for sure I bet some of the guys are very good - personally I play in a average standard more for enjoyment (plus when you get to mid 30s it's downhill lol)

That's was meant to say

"I'm actually at dotball in the morning, will ask......"

Seems I got side tracked and never finished the first sentence. Haha. Will update in morning,

B3 net bat plus gm octane shall be getting a run out tomoz.

AMS - Sounds like me, average standard and mid 30's!

Let me have know what dates work and we'll try and fix something up, would be good to net with some different people, our opening bowler has broke his arm and 4 other lads from my club are in Australia.

None of the older lads from the club are interested in practicing during winter

How many players are you wanting? Is it simply a batting using bowling machines or is it a mixed batting/bowling session? Can come down from York and perhaps bring some guys too if needed.

Batting and bowling, would prefer to keep it forum based, but if we don't get the numbers then ringers can be bought in.

Title: Re: Nets in Scunthorpe / Sheffield
Post by: Ams4287 on December 27, 2014, 07:58:13 PM
Hey Ryan

Think the plan is a proper net based on numbers so better get loose! Dotball is good facilities with 2 nets with run up (which we're after) and 2 shorter all 4 have a bowling machine anyway in worst case

So it's you, Simmy, Dave, Chris, myself (Andy), @Lumsden & Russ (@RF) plus of course anyone else who's interested

Should be a good laugh

Question is for a net of 7 how many bats will rock up?!
Title: Re: Nets in Scunthorpe / Sheffield
Post by: smilley792 on December 27, 2014, 08:10:12 PM
The lane booked is a run up lane. So hopefully we shall have a bowl
But as dave says there is a machine for each lane as back up.

ams list of attendees is correct.

As for bats. Who knows me and dave had a net last week and there was 9 bats present just for the two of us. ........

I may sound like a party pooper when I say this but.

A few others asked the same. And i said I'd rather keep it open to forum members first. And if numbers short then bring in ringers.

As we now have 7, I can't really say yes to you without saying yes to others. And then, well we are gonna be near 15 and that would be a little pandemonius.

Sorry.

@procricket B3
@Ams4287
@RF
@Lumsden
@Ryan
@Simmy

Net is tomorrow guys. 7pm at Dotball. Directions above. Any issues why you can't make or may be late let me know as we do have 2hrs booked.

Snow may seem a problem. But I've been driving round sheffield for the last two days and the main roads are clear and most side roads passable.
Dotball is accessible.

Am thinking 25 mins bat each. Which takes up most the 2 hrs and leaves time for batsmen swap and bag ogling.

I doubt Dotball will be packed if needed.

I'll bowl all day if not on my own, and despite my bizarre action, will give people some practice, i also have a few side arms (if anyone can use them in a safe manner)

I do bowl military medium (at best  :D) seamers Dave and like Chris am happy to bowl away, unfortunately not easy to bowl cutters indoors lol! I'm sure we'll be fine. As for a sidearm hmmm #lethal!

Chris appreciate your not bringing the whole collection, and well the laver would pickup 2oz on the journey with the weather but would you mind bringing the high spined red ink finished oversized cleft please. I'm intrigued by different shapes that you would not normally come across (the T20 bats also interest me so we'll see what Dave has come up with at the last trip to b3!).

Looking forward to it as i've not done anything since September

Cheers
Andy

I'll be there tonight, looking toward to it.
My bowling is very slow also, nothing to worry about and I've not had a bat since September so I'll be more than pleased if I hit a few.
I'm only bringing 2 bats but I'm afraid that if I stay on this forum for much longer I'll end up with far more bats than I need or my ability justifies

Ian i think that was his name did one of the best machine sessions ever got to admit and showed me my deficiency and i have a plan to work on he did vary it greatly and showed me the light. Good session

Yes did the full session think i have picked my number 1 bat for the season... The zizi

No the owner fed me for a hour great session not a half volley in sight... Plus we did have all the bags so around 120 balls at a time very good best £18 quid i have spent in a long long time.

Personally I found the session very rewarding as often when I bat in pre-season nets, the ball doesn't actually reach me. Excellent mix of both bowling and batting styles although I did briefly resort to bowling legside filth to avoid being sent into orbit by one particular batsman. Think I might do something similar down at Lordswood (Tadcaster between York and Leeds) in the coming weeks.

Good venue although a little more bounce than expected especially from the spin.

Good to put names to faces and I'd deffently be up for another meet.
