Absolute farce. Simply making an example of them. Nothing more.

Yes...revenge punishment over the contract issue
They are prepared to leave out two of the best players as a lesson
I find the whole thing very sad,ive followed wi cricket since lords 1984
They need another country's board to run their cricket

Can we swap their board with the ECB??
-
They'd still be left out as they wouldn't fit the mould of an ECB style 'one day' player!
-
They'll miss Bravo bit time as he is class, but I'm not sure Pollard is that big a loss tbh.
-
Havent they just gone back from the big bash and to play in SA? If this is true (AFAIK it hasnt been confirmed yet) then i can see them both jacking in international cricket and playing t20 worldwide. If the WI arent fielding their strongest teams i can see teams not wanting to play them as much which is just a fast way to WI not playing international cricket

Just a couple of mercenaries anyway

The failings aren't with the players here, they didn't create T20 cricket, cricket boards have, now the cricket boards and ICC need to sort out this scheduling mess so players aren't being hung put to dry for earning money in their chosen career. I'm a contractor and work for whoever pays me the best rates, its exactly the same as modern day cricketers. They are just working, nothing else.

ease up, it was tongue in cheek, simialr scenario to KP being called a mercenary

aha bitten :) This is probably the common view though.
-
KP !!!
don't get me started !!! it will really kick off on the forum :)
seriously, WI cricket faces problem after problem. The older players don't understand todays game, the money they can earn when some of the best cricketers an anyone's generation played for virtually nothing to represent a group of Countries joined together as West Indies....
for a long time also WI cricket had no money, then they had money and spent it on anything but grass roots cricket.
As with most things....comprise is required to fix it.When, what, where that compromise is- is anyone's guess......
the other alternative of course is it breaks completely and then has to be put back together another way....

Just a sad situation. Leaving those guys out of the team isnt going to help them win the world cup. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
-
I would have thought Gayle would be dropped ahead of these 2. How many times has gayle been selected for a series and then drops out because he's "injured", yet a week later he appears in a domestic t20 competition.
Bravo's clearly being punished for the loss of revenue by pulling the team out of the India tour
-
Clive Lloyd, an absolute legend of the game and someone I respect massively, but he was just asked by Charles Coville on Sky has Dwayne Bravo been axed from ODI side because of what happened in India. Lloyd said no. But that Bravo's performances aren't up to scratch in the last few years. Well Bravo's taken 53 wickets @ 26 in the last two years. That's up there with anyone in the World.
Lloyd should just admit that they've hung Bravo and Pollard out to dry.
-
yes Gerry, that's exactly what they have done, and it's shameful.
It's an i'm in charge mentality with old guard meeting new and it does not gel at all.
I have massive respect for those Windies players that played in the 70's and 80's and became the world's best side and earned very little money but the game has moved on so quick big money is available to these players.

There's far too much politics and in fighting at all levels of sport. It's just a shame that a number of the better entertainers wouldn't be at the World Cup due to these reasons.
-
What are the chances that Lloyd even had a say in decision, Having seen how things work I suspect he might not be entirely or at all responsible but has to go out and face the questions while people who really wanted this to happen sit in the back ground with a smug grin on their faces...Pollard I could understand but Bravo is a bit hard to accept if dropped on merit only.

You have to understand that all the islands in the west indies are separate countries. It's like the EU selecting a team, there will always be favouritism and selection issues. But in this case it's just because of that India tour pull out.
Can't understand dropping pollard and bravo for not performing when the likes of Ramdin, Simmons and Russell have done a lot worse.
Sarwan's been pretty vocal: https://twitter.com/ronniesarwan
He was also mistreated by the board (think it was Coach Gibson).
Interesting views on why kirk Edwards was dropped!
