Title: 3 Star ASSEGAI
Post by: GDP1964 on February 10, 2015, 09:43:40 PM
Curiosity got the better of me so I asked B&S South Africa to make me two 3 stars  ASSEGAI with a blade width of 105 mm as opposed to the standard 110 mm and true to form one came in at 2.8 and 47mm edges the other one will be weighed and measured and figures will be given . And yes I know you want pictures my trusty friend jake will be asked to post some tomorrow . Can you notice the width ? I think only because I knew the blade width before hand YES if I did not know I don't think so

As far as blade width goes it's a non issue really.
The maximum permitted width is 108mm so 105mm won't be noticeable to the naked eye.

To save myself typing out the same thing over and over - this is what I said last time bat width was discussed.
Finally someone else who sees sense!
My SS LE is 105mm wide, and the chase just I refurbished was 106mm when I'd finished. Taking a couple of mm off the edge with a sander doesn't make it a worse bat, so a couple of mm here and there isn't even slightly important in the grand scheme of things....

Also - my brand new SS Yuvi is 108mm (the permitted maximum) and when stood side my side they don't look to be different sizes.

Thank you learnt something new I thought it was 110mm max 108mm is quite correct I agree it not that noticeable but as a manufacturer you shorten blade width you do get bigger edges . Next question should the consumer be made aware of width reduction ?

If the customer should be made aware or not is a strange issue really.

Outside the forum I doubt many would even know some brands (thinking mainly SF and CA here) have narrower blades to create the illusion of bigger edges and a lighter bat.

It's such small margins (maybe 2-3mm) I doubt anyone would notice, but there's always the argument if you don't tell them it may come back to bite you if the customer does notice.

Do you have a Greham Pollock bat to hand by the way?
If so can you please measure the width of it?

You hit the nail on the head there re public I agree it is far to small. A difference to worry about it😀. Re Pollock I have three here with me and they are all 108 (PHEW) and all full blade length flat face and square toe which I believe helps in obtaining bigger edges now if that doesn't convince you too buy one I don't know 😝
