I surely wasn't from that era.. but old folks who played cricket in the 60s and 70s, whom I have spoken to say he was one of the best they watched. People would bunk college, school and offices to watch him bat!

Vishy is a legend of Indian cricket who did not get the recognition he deserved. He was Rahul Dravid of his generation.

I recall him coming over to England for the 1979 series. Gavaskar and Vishwanath were regarded as the two best batsmen. Theirs were the two wickets that were crucial to get. Two short batsman who proved (along with Kallicharan, who was a little shorter than either) that height wasn't a disability for a batsman, but that they posed different challenges for bowlers. An entertaining batsman to watch.
