Afternoon all, thought I would share a few pics and my review of my new TON Legacy elite. This is the top of the range model for the UK so I believe this year.
This is the first season that I'll be using Sareen kit and having already got a max power I wanted to add a model with the new full profile for this year. Firstly what I really like are the oval handles on the TON bats they are perfect for my hands and with the ripple grip feel really good in the hands.
So this is G1 top end English willow and this model has an even strip of heartwood on the RH outside edge , personally I like some heartwood on the outside edge of my bats and all my best ever bats have had heartwood in the main. Close tight grains 15 of them that can be mirrored through the back of the bat which I was always told was the sign of a good bat if the grains are mirrored front and back. Profile is mid placed with a duck bill toe and no concaving, 40 mm edges and approx 58mm spine height and is quite a big bat actually looks bigger than 40mm edge if that makes sense. Weight is 2.10 dead on with grip and scuff sheet and toe guard, now I'm not going to say it picks up like a 2.7 or anything like that but too me it feels light in my hands and in the back lift.
Now performance wise I haven't used in a net but having tapped this up compared to some of my other bats this is a serious piece of willow, the middle seems quite long and very punchy I don't think this will require a lot of effort to send the ball to the boundary, the pressing on this and also my TON max power which I have netted with all winter is in my view very good. In addition the finish is also very very good, I have oiled the bat but the edges were rounded, standings very smooth and the quality of the stickers are superb. Here are a few pics

Not a fan of Ton but that is a nice bat, hope it scores you some good runs!
-
Get and knock that in Chris!
My Yuvi tapped up lovely from new, but after a bit of mallet loving it went to the next level!
If the 2nd hand LE I got off ebay is anything to go by, a played in SS in the full profile will go like stink!
-
Gorgeous bat Chris, looks so much cleaner on the back without all the normal stickers.
-
Those are some lush grains. Even if you don't score any runs with it, you'll be able to consolidate yourself with a stunning looking bat!
-
Nice bat no hits hard kit ???
-
Nice... top end TON bats are better than any i have owned.
Also, i thought TON Gladiator Elite was top of the range in UK.

Rrp,on the Legacy Elite is higher than the Gladiator Elite
Lovely bat Chris, glad you are pleased with it :)
-
RRP is higher on Legacy bats for some reason but the Willow used on TON Gladiator is definitely better than Legacy bats

What about TON reserve edition ? Is that still top of the TON range or is it no more in the range?

Reserve Edition doesn't exist in the UK range.

Ok. I thought TON branding was made for UK market.
Now it's confusing :-[
Ss/ton needs to streamline their range.
-
I agree, why make two different sets of stickers for the same bat?? Personally I like SS branding rather than TON.

I haven't got a Scooby what's going on with the range either now.
I thought it was a simple TON was UK market, SS was everywhere else, but that's clearly not the case! ???
Also I'm confused as to how the 7 star limited edition is now mid range... :-[

That cant be right? Dont VKS stock the Reserve Edition? And I remember seeing some stunning ones on advertised by them on here?

They cannot be branded SS in Europe. Surridge sued them for copyright infringement. So they rebranded to TON.

Legal resons in the UK with SS being Stuart Surridge mate. The TON/SS thing isn't the issue, it's more the (seemingly hundreds of) different ranges, prices and star ratings of the bats not being clear to the consumer.
For example there is the 7 star SS Limited Edition at £150, then the 7 start SS reserve in the same shape and its £300. Both the same shape, 7 stars and G1 willow, where is the sense in that?

VKS are the only retailer who deal directly with the Sareen factory. All other UK retailers go through the UK distributor of TON products, hence the different ranges being available at VKS.

That also explains the lack of TON stamp on the back of their bats! All makes sense now :-[

Jake - do any of your Ton Heritage models have a full back - or indeed any of the lower end models?

The Heritage and Bounty are both in the typical TON shape, big edges and concaving. The Power Blaster is similar but with a much lower middle. The Max Power Classic is the cheapest model (we sell for £170 with free delivery) that carries a different shape. It is a profile very similar to the GM Six6 as you can see.

The cheapest bat in the same shape as Soulmans is the Gladiator Players around £200.

That looks la cracker and you are correct with regard to the mirrored grains.
-
Is 2lb13.5 a bit heavy for you Bruce?

I have an SS with a full back! They do exist but I guess must be hard to find! 2.10 ish

They do exist and I picked up two on my recent trip to India, a Legacy and an LE. Both a touch under 2.10 and the are amazing. And the price is a steal (pricing in India and UK is a can of worms that I am not willing to open ;))
-
That's a beautiful looking bat, Soulman, have you got a direct shot up the toe? I like the heartwood on this bat, the contrast between it and the sapwood is beautiful. I like how SS are offering a few different profiles this year, adds a bit of flavour to their range!

Add up the delivery and import costs, distribution costs, VAT, and on top of that the customer service, I'm sure the pricing is pretty high compared to India, but quite understandably so!
A nail in the handle a past issue which haunts you in your dreams? Not to worry, retailers here will actually help you sort that out if it happens!

Just a little update in this bat.
Spend a few hours knocking in edges and toe and used it last night at nets against the slower bowlers and it plays very very well. Middle is very long and seems to be a very punchy middle if that makes sense ball. Little checked drive almost killed one of the bowlers.
All in very impressed with my TON kit for this year.
-
The reserve edition from SS is just phenomenal. Apparently, they are using the players grade willow for this range. Here is what I got my hands on:

Really nice looking bat - where did you get it from and can you tell us how much? :)

I'm not a huge fan of the TON stickers/branding in general but it looks like you've got a nice piece of willow there pal

Thanks mate, it is magical in hand. Around 2.9 but feels like 2.7, must say these duck bill shape bats feel nicer and lighter in hands.

SS branding looks better than TON in my opinion, but it's still a bit marmite

I'm more partial to the SS branding, even if they are copying the GM look (you only have to look at the SS Master to see the resemblance)

I look at the master every night as it lives next to my bed (sat next to an SS Linited edition)
I don't know why I prefer the SS to TON, maybe my OCD likes the symmetry of it and the fact it says SS the correct way up if you're left or right handed!
-
Oh it is you who robbed OnlineStockist of that bat @WalkingWicket37, you deffo got a bargin there mate! :D

Anyone else notice kohli written on the toe of the last batch?

Always helps a sale, grab a sharpie write the players name on the bottom and have an easy sale.
When's the last time you saw a pro with his name at the bottom of the bat?

I think the fact that Kohli doesn't use a fully stamped up TON puts this argument to bed.
Writing someones name on the toe doesn't automatically make it their bat, or one destined for them.
I might wright Pietersen on the toe of my H4L. Make it worth loads more.
-
You're right it doesn't, but all the bats from SS which goes to players have their names written by the in-house bat maker. At-least, that has been my experience over the last few years.

That may or may not be the case. I'm more inclined to believe it's been made in that player's profile than that it was 100% destined to go to them.
I guess only the one who writes it will know for certain.
Anyway I'm going to write Rahane on the toe of my £25 MSR, with the fake Nike stickers and his name it on there it shoud easily fetch £250 on eBay, right? :D
