Title: Going back to your bats
Post by: tim2000s on February 22, 2015, 11:07:32 PM
Had a net this afternoon and took my Instinct along for old times sake. It is now approaching four years old.

Its always nice to pick up a bat you've neglected and realise that you really should use it all the time because it is probably the best bat that you own!

I had forgotten quite how good it is. Why do I keep buying bats with one already in my collection that is this good?

I sold my kook for next to nothing so I'd stop doing this.

Think it had about 7 serious repairs. And every time it broke I'd replace it. Then a fair few months later have it repaired and use till it broke. And then the cycle continued.

It was more filler and fibreglass than wood... and new I'd want to try it again so sold it as a net bat.

I'm. Now still searching for the perfect bat.....

Because we are all crazy and blame bats and do not let them mature...

And they do break my old trusty 1271 is not the bat it was so now got it replacement lined up though i may as well get a few.

Plus i like trying new bats out in practice not many make games though bit fussy apparently !!!

Did this last season - brought my very old and quite broken Kahuna out of the cupboard for some midweek games to save my dying match bat for the weekends. After I top edged my first ball for 6, toed two more into the carpark and just tapped one into the legside to find it sailing out of the ground, I remembered just how good it was and posted it off to Red Ink and asked John to make me a new one!

This one is a Keeley made monster and I think it should always be the first in my kitbag. Even toeing it, it was flying!

Was oiling two Affinity bats yesterday and dug out my old Gray nicks, just to compare feel/ping
I ended up doing a mini comparison of all my bats, and to be honest the 25yr old GN had by far the best ping?
I'd scored thousands of runs with this bat until the handle broke,,15mm edges and all.
It was never knocked in,,oiled,,scuff sheated,, or pampered in any way

Shock as most normal players use their bats until they die rather than buying 5 each winter and don't use any of them...

I am looking forward to using my last season bat this season!

Due to it snowing and cold  on Saturday for somthing to I  dug out my Duncan Fearnley magnum DF4 I think it is called its around 25 years old (i think) I weigh it and it's 2 - 11 with a  complete straight flat face and no spine the  ball still flies 1 inch up from the toe to around 7 inches up the blade mainly along the middle of the blade it t only has 4 grains.
I shall try and use it for matches this season if after not using it for years i can still swing it without my arms feeling as if they are about to drop off.

I've had a few bats over the years, none ping like my trusty old Warsop.  This bat gets used by everybody as a spare bat/if their bat breaks.  Touch wood, it seems indestructable.

Unfortunately it has a very oval handle that I find difficult to use these days so does not get as much use as it should.
