Well all,
I got a part made from Matt with a knot in the shoulder as I wanted something that if I messed it up I would not be upset. So far I have just given it a quick sand and started with the duckbill toe. I have a very very simple set up, sander, block plane (thanks John), spoke shave and me feet as a vice. The cleft weighed 3.3 pounds when recived and I hope to get it too 2.10 by the end. No concaving as I don't have the ability or tools, and I am thinking of rounding the top to make it a tad eaiser. Any tips?

i found that getting a nice chunky bat and tracing the edge onto the cleft gives you a good starting point to shape the edges. just leave a couple of millimeters spare as dont forget you are going to have to do a bit of sanding to get a good finish.
hard to judge as all of a sudden out of know where it will just look like a bat!
how thick are those edges at the moment 50mm?

They are about 40mm at the mo, looking for 30 ish.
