Title: Duffers play indoor Cricket!!
Post by: FattusCattus on February 27, 2015, 09:09:47 PM
Cor! I played indoor cricket last night - that's a fast game isn't it?

I struggled a bit with the batting - the ball seemed to come to you so quickly, and I felt I needed a really light bat. I wasn't so adept at working the ball around and whacking the side walls and running quick singles - although I did manage to whack a few sixes off the back wall.

However my loopy in-swingers were a bit deadly - late movement seemed to shag up a few of the decent batsmen, and I got entrusted with the last over on both occasions. We won both our games and it was real fun.

Is anyone else a new convert to indoor cricket?

I've been playing indoors for about the last ten years.  Had always played outdoors but the time just wasn't there with two kids to be spending full days away from home.
I'm starting outdoors again this year, but have loved keeping 'in touch' indoors.

Started playing about 4-5 months ago, bloody knackering I find. The ball swings rediculous as well doesn't it.

It's only fun when it's a new ball :). Too easy to bat against otherwise

Nah, due to my fatty chest-on action, I'm swinging it really late. Such fun!

I really struggle indoors.  It just swings too much.

Don't get me wrong indoors is aweful compared to real cricket but it should be more widely available than it is. It should also target jnr and casuals more IMO.

Said it before and I'll say it again.  I hate indoor cricket.  It's too fast and doesn't feel anything like a 45 over game does. Mostly because it isnt but still!

I agree with you but I think it could be a good tool to keep Jnrs playing and those casual players. Certainly around here teams take it mad serious and so score off casual players.. Hence the league struggles, for, teams and players

True.  It's good (possibly) for attracting players as it's a different format

Quite a bit of indoor cricket in York during the winter (well Tadcaster to be exact). There's a 10 week evening league run from October to December at Lordswood (which is just outside Tadcaster) whilst at Tadcaster Leisure Centre, the York & District Senior League operate a league on Sundays (from November to March). The Lordswood indoor cricket is just really a bit of organised fun (well it is in Division 5) which this winter actually had a waiting list of teams wanting to play. However Sundays are quite serious.
