Duck Bills are the fashion this year, I doubt many players actually care about the shape but rather it just pings all over the bat, I know Ben Stokes said he doesn't matter where and what type of bat he uses just as long as its got a massive ping.
-
Looks like Titch is using a duckbill too

Over a year? I've got a lovely duckbill chase I bought in 2011! ;)
-
Hell you must be the most informed man in cricket pal respect to you Cam.
-
In truth they have always been there but the new flat toe modern duck I would say around a year to 18 months it has been popular.
Kranzbhuler was the starter of this version but there are many different versions

I knew they've been around for some time but everyone's just talking about them nowadays, obviously being a bat maker yourselves you'll know stacks more knowledge than little old me haha. I'm also guessing you know more about Ben Stokes than you're letting on, care to tell what he really wants in a bat?
No harsh feelings? :-[
-
Ehh ???
Never been called a bat maker pal harsh feelings about what mate.
Nope was interested in what stokes wants as in a bat pal that's all.
They always been around have ducks just not the flat bottomed flat toe ones.
For instance look at Steve Smith his is different to all others.
Sorry if you thought I was being a bugger I wasn't mate
-
Haha sorry @procricket B3 just a little forum misunderstanding.
I just remeber he done a TV piece about bats and remember he loves a bat that pings and shape doesn't matter as much. :)
-
No bother pal just come back from a weekend away from cricket just watched England wow can it get worst!!!!
All the players need duckbills love sangakkara

I know, we get that all important 300 then we're unable to defend it, coming into this World Cup I thought the bowling would be the better of the two but clearly not however I feel our comments are best placed in another thread, I dont want to ruin the original post with tales of woe from our Nations team haha

Haha I'll be honest I bought it on the size of the sweetspot rather than the shape.
Story time!
I'd always fancied a chase 175 so saved a months worth of wages from my part time job and went off to Dummer.
They had 2 bats in stock that took my eye, a 175 finback (big edges, high spine and the concaving made a fin on the back) or a 175 Beluga (traditional shape for English pitches)
I took a mallet and unscientific ally tapped both and the Beluga had the larger sweetspot, so naturally I bought that one!

My version of it
-
About half a inch lower down bill mine has...
-
Wait, is that an exact copy of Sanga's shape? (What I mean is have B3 made for Sanga?)
Or your interpretation of his shape?
-
No...
You have to remember i have a few contacts around the place this bat is merely a unknown secret bat got a ssh too HEHE
I like this bat and his shape is brilliant
-
I was going to ask or is it from somewhere completely different, but didn't want my post to look like I was playing 20 questions! ;)
-
Haha we have made a few that are being used at the world cup but his are not ours
-
Duckbill toes aren't new though, woodworm wands had them.
And as tony at hunts says all bats are the same. a handle, a small bit, a big bit and a small bit again. Only so many ways to change it. like clothes there will always be fashions.
-
Of course there not the reflex if you look through old pictures of bats your own collections you will see them.
Just different styles of ducks high ones to low ones
-
No...

I think that Ssh has a crack/split/surface imperfection.
I'll take it off you so you have space for the good ones.

Post pics if u can

I must say that is something I have been focusing on this World Cup...looking out for Duck bills :)... is there a reason why so many players are using this profile? Does this let one have a meaty bat with a lighter pickup that's needed on the quicky and bouncy Aus wickets? Is there a logic to the trend? Would duckbills be useful on low English pitches?
-
I have to be honest I don't like these really flat "duct bill" toes.
:o

HAving used duckbill Hunts bats for years on English pitches, I'd say it makes little difference. Does give the bat a slightly lighter pick up though.

Ditto.
I recently attended the tri series final at the waca and stood 2m behind the practice nets and had a great look at bats. Smiths bat is absolutely pure, was perhaps the lightest/smallest of the bats I saw - guessing its a massive 2.6 bat or the like. The shape was imo perfect and all edges of the bat looked perfectly formed, it was extremely 'white' The biggest bat was roots six6, which looked nothing like even a player edition bat, best stickers, morgans spartan, I think that game was its first outing (albeit very brief)

The Steve Smith bat looks so much like SS pasted below. Are they made by SS?
-
How thick do you think Steve Smith's bat toe is? Looks like 25-30mm to me. Wouldn't mind a profile like that but the middle placement higher up the blade. George Bailey has a similar profile, 2:30 ish:-

Haha I wish that one was mine! Mine is the old Achieve shape, and is a lower grade. Still looks stunning for the price mind you! :)

Very similar to the DC880 that has been tempting me.....
