Title: Kippax Custom
Post by: harry gamble on March 01, 2015, 08:02:32 PM
Anyone experienced what the custom made bespoke service is like from Kippax, as being based in Yorkshire it seems a decent option for a custom bat for this year

I know some who have had bats made by Kippax and they were very happy with them.  I was almost buying a Pureblade but picked up something else at a great price.
My only concern - they do not grade their willow.  Now, in my opinion willow is a natural material and therefore some clefts will be better quality than others.  Every other company grades the willow they use, but not Kippax who claim all their willow is top grade.  However, I'm not sure about that as some just has to be better than others!  My worry is that I might get a bat made from what would be classed as a 'lower' grade willow by other companies.  Therefore, at the price Kippax are asking I'd rather go to a company who grades their willow so that I am a bit more clear on the quality of willow used to make the bat.

Maybe, but I just don't buy that every single bat is equal.  Though grading doesn't always reflect performance, of course!

I agree all bats are not equal

So would you pay £300 for a bat without being given some kind of grading beforehand?
Eventually I just worried that by chance I'd get one of the lesser clefts.

I wouldn't pay £300 for any bat if I could help it.

The grading is on looks. The performance can be as good from any grade bat.

If I was paying that much, I'd visit the company directly.

If i was paying that i would be selecting the cleft   and designing the shape first so i new what cleft i was going for

Agreed, but you can do that elsewhere for much less money.
I got the impression the OP wasn't intending to visit, though not sure why.

i didn't know that, thanks. it seems a bit weird to not grade bats. plus at £300 for a non graded bat i wouldn't risk it
