Title: To Titanium or not Titanium?
Post by: six and out on March 14, 2015, 07:46:05 AM
Hi all,

I need to get a new helmet after having my old one for years and it finally needs replacing. After looking around etc.. I have decided on the getting Masuri VS Elite. However what i can't decide on is whether i need to get the Titanium grille or not?

After watching Paul's IJC reviews (which are excellent) the Titanium grille helmet weighs 185g less than the Steel grille one which to me seems a lot - especially when the Steel one weighs over 1.1kg, although there is the obvious cost increase attached with the Titanium - approx extra 65-70 quid

If anyone has any thoughts on this or has had this dilemma i would be very grateful to hear from you.

I have masuri VS steel, it feels heavy in the hand but you don't notice it on the head. feels better than the older models.

I bought the VS titanium but didn't like the weight, the lack of light and vision compared to the previous models so I sold it on and managed to source one of the old shells and elite titanium grill. Had I not found one I would have probably gone for Shrey.

Comparing the two, the VS is noticeably heavier in the hand and whilst it's less noticeable when it's on your head - I was still conscious of it. I also didn't like how dark it felt under the peak or the new position of the fixed grill. On the plus side it was very, very comfortable.

I would go titanium mate. I went to Paul's to try them on and whilst the steel doesnt feel too bad the lighter titanium defo made the difference. If you can afford it i would say go for it
