Hello all
This is my first post so please be gentle. I just won a Classic Bat Company bat on ebay, I wanted this bat purely out of nostalgia. I remember playing as a kid in Bristol in the early to mid 90s and if a lad walked to the wicket with one of those you knew you would be chasing leather for plenty of overs.
I always wanted one but could never afford it :(
It's made me think about starting a collection of classic bats, I've seen that a few lads on here have great collections already.
The plan is to refurb the bat a bit and get it back to where it belongs out in the middle.
I'll try and post some pictures when it arrives. I'm not sure if they were very much a West Country thing or if they went countrywide?
Anyway thanks for excepting me into this exclusive club.

Made by Warsop Stebbing, I believe. Had butterfly as their 'top of range".
-
marketed butterfly willow as the ultimate...

From memory the owner was John Courtney from Keynsham. I remember meeting him at The Flying Geese CC at Bishops Lydeard in 1990... I think ?

They also made a double sided bat, flat on both sides.
Well before anyone was playing reverse sweeps etc.
Can't imagine it was any good though

I tried one once, it absolutely flew.
Stiffed one to cover, hurled it right over the pavilion! :)

"Had butterfly as their 'top of range".
I wonder when butterfly felt out of favour. One forum sponsor (uk), and two ex-pros at my club, one from NZ, one from Oz, all speak very highly of butterfly as some of the best playing willow.

You clearly never played against me then...although looking at the period of time you may well have done!
I had a Classic Bat Co Limited Edition, cost just under £100 with my, ahem, "sponsorship" so not too pricey and was a very good bat that served me well for several seasons. Would be good to see some pics of your bat

Got my classic bat today. It needs some tlc but pings nicely.
How do I get pictures up from photobucket?
Cheers

You've bought back found memories. I was once one of the million sponsored plays back then with classic bat. can't wait to see a pic of the bat

I have a classic double sided bat still in very good condition too, it got me a ton in one match, I find it very good on low bounce pitches due to its middle being at the base of the bat. Its not so good on high bouncy tracks.
The balance of it is a bit weird but you get used to it.
Funniest thing I find is when slips say you have your bat the wrong way so you turn it round and carry on, they are completely puzzled!

So here is my Classic Bat Company Bat.
With a bit of help from the old man I've glued, stamped and taped the damage up. It picks up really well and the ball bounces lovely off it. Unfortunately I can't get out in the middle with it till mid July as I live in Dubai and have left it in the UK.
I'll let you know how it goes....to be fair it can't make my batting any worse!
I'm very jealous that you're all starting your seasons.
