Title: Bat Repair 'Starter Kit'

Hi guys,

First off this is a really useful site and thanks to all the contributors!

However, after searching I cant the answer I'm looking for.

I'm looking for recommendation on the full kit I'd need to be able to repair bats for myself and my teammates. Things like refurbs, gluing cracks etc.

So far I have: Various sand paper (no sander), super glue, linseed oil/wax, edging tape, mallet, cone, grips.

What else would you guys recommend?

You'll be a sander of some sort, sand paper, clamps, glue, wax or oil, gripping cone, scuff sheets, grips, edge tape etc. Depends what exactly you want to undertake.

Needle, syringe, PVA wood glue not super glue. G clamps. scraper for removing residue from scuff sheets. some people like a toe guard so some fevibond and toe guards. I never use them but some scuff sheets too.
That should just about do it. If you have the cash a sander is useful as it makes life easier. an orbital sander is fine and a cheap one will be up to the job. alternatively if you are a keen woodworker a random orbit sander will make life even easier.

Forgot, Electrical tape of different colours to tape the bottom of the grips.

Off the top of my head:

Random orbit sanded
Various grades of sandpaper (I have from 80 - 400)
Fibreglass bat tape
Helicopter scuff sheets
Fibreglass scuff sheets
PVA glue
G clamps
Twine
Parcel tape
Electrical tape
Syringes
Super glue
Inpact adhesive
Toe guards
Shoe goo
A bat mallet/hammer

Seems a good topic to sticky.
You may want some white spirits for cleaning sticker residue and a selection of grips too.

Thanks guys, have completed the shopping list and business is... booming? Well that may be an exaggeration, but as a lot of you guys say, refurbing a bat is so therapeutic that's what counts!

In addition to whats already been mentioned i have the following

White spirit - used to remove glue residue
Nectar card - used to scrape stuff off with
Stanley blade - used for scraping glue off of the blade or trimming scuff sheets to size/shape
GripGrip tape

To add to the question, what is the best tool to shave off wood to reduce weight? I used a hand plane before but it was very difficult to get smooth shaves for us non specialists, chips of wood would come out..Anything easier but does the same job?

Use self amalgamating tape instead of grip grip tape, it's cheaper and the same thing.

Is self amalgamating tape what can be used at base of the handle so you don't need to tape the bottom of the grip?

There is the branded stuff (Grip Grip) but generic self amalgamating tape will do the exact same job.

Mineral Turpentine (removes glue residue easily)
Heat gun (hairdryer doesn't cut it sometimes)
Popsicle sticks (very handy for applying shoe goo etc.)
Dowel rods (when reinforcing repairs by drilling holes and inserting the dowel with glue)
