Hi guys
The first game of the season is (hopefully) less than 3 weeks away for me! If I get selected for the 2nd XI this year then the first pre season game is 18th April.
When does everyone else get underway? :D
-
11th April is the first, got a game every sat and sun . On the look out for any earlier games if anyones team has them and needs a player :)
-
On tour in Bristol the weekend of the 25/26th, league games start on the 2nd of May.
-
18th as well cam, coleshill, followed by corley away. The best batting deck of the season in april. Ffs
-

I'm in hospital for a (very) minor op on the 8th May and have to have a week of minimal activity while I've got stitches, first league game is on the 9th so not ideal!
At least I should get some pre season games in so I don't go into the league totally cold :(
-

-
11th friendly
Then we start on the 18th!!
-
Friendly on the 11th all being well and then the league starts on the 18th. Really looking forward to this season :)
-
Sunday 12th for a friendly if my plane isn't late as a nice pre season cruise is being taken on Friday to get some warm weather in before I don the obligatory layers for April cricket.......

Ours is this sunday for a friendly then again on the 12th.

-
Warm up on 11th and first game on 18th April
-
10th April if selected for the uni team, followed by another uni game on the 11th, and our first club friendly on the 12th! Should be a busy weekend!
-
First friendly 18th April, it will undoubtedly be rained off as it always seems to be!
First league matches are not until 2nd May
-
18th April. Not playing on the 19th due to Villas semi final.
On tour the following weekend, where weather/selected/not throwing up permitting I could get 3 games in.
League starts 2nd May
-
We'll have a club friendly T20, weather permitting, 29th April and first league game is 2nd May.
Nearly missed it due to a weekend booked with my wife's friends and families, but she's played an absolute blinder and said I can arrive on Sunday morning instead of Friday evening. Probably helped by her best mate's husband who's not arriving until Saturday evening as he's doing an ultra marathon, but still I'm delighted!
-
Warm-up matches Sat/Sun Apr 18/19 then league starts up here (Scotland) Sat Apr 25.
A few seasons ago I had my pic in the XL Club mag wearing a beanie fielding in an early season School game and I wasn't fooling!
I've played April/early May games up here when the air temperature was a negative.
We're maybe not very good but we're hardy! :)
-
First LMS match is 22nd April at 6.30pm....
-
First League game on the 25th April with 5 of the first team sunning themselves in Tenerife! Long Johns and woolly jumpers for us, Speedos and snorkels for them. Still much rather be crossing the boundary rope for the first time this season.
-
Long story cut short - we had our boundary extended over the winter. This includes removing some trees and flattening the ground where they were. The grass had just grown back and it was looking like a cricket pitch when the contractors came to do something about the drainage. We now have a sandpit at one end of the ground, starting at mid on, round to mid off and going back to the boundary!
2 weeks until the first game and our ground looks like this:

She's one of the unofficial grounds dogs so she's allowed on there, she even rolls (on) the wicket just after the lines are painted on match day ;)
-
True groundsman don't care ha!
-
First game is this coming saturday (11th) can't see myself being selected for that,
Interclub 18th
Swindon Home and Away 25th
League begins May 2nd
-
Forget the dog, the car park is at long on!
Our first game pre season game against Whittington on 26th April with first game 2nd May
-
Forget the dog, the car park is at long on!
That picture is the edge if the square so it looks closer, and the end strips are only used for colts games. As "proper games" are played more centrally it's a pretty big hit and up a slope to get one into the car park (but it does occasionally happen)
People have more fun trying to clear a big tree at cow corner. Chance are, if you clear it, the ball will go ever the road and end up in someone's allotment. :D
-
@WalkingWicket37 , haha, I love that doggie on the ground. 😄
-
25th April for us, friendly on the 18th. Not looking nearly as sub zero weather wise the past few days! Think it still might be a beanie and handwarmers day.
-
i'm playing in a friendly match next Sat (11th) joining guys i used to play with as a kid so it should be a good trip down memory lane.
League starts the week after.
-
Had our first friendly on the Sunday against the team we are most likely to play our first league game of the season.
-
Absolutely buzzing, been picked for the uni first team to play against Newport CC in Wales on Saturday. Doesn't seem real that the season is here already!
-
Spent 4 hours in the nets yesterday and am feeling it today! First game of the season might be a shock to the system :-[
-
My clubs first game is scheduled for the 25th. Unfortunately my Mrs' birthday is on the 23rd so we are currently in tense negotiations with regards to my availability...
-
First game should have been week on thursday. But our tour was cancelled due to (No Swearing Please).
So we have an inter Club friendly on the 19th instead.
-
Friendlies for the next two Saturdays and then league matches start on the 25th April.
It would be interesting to know when the first league match actually is, before the 25th April seems very early and I bet there would be some low scores around!

leagues should start 18th apr to 26th sept. april makes it a good game as the wickets are not conducive to batsmen and sept is cracking weather now so it's a month wasted. More games means more people playing.. more money for the clubs.

So I am officially playing on saturday. With 9 1st XI boys. Can expect a nice boring day at fine leg and to bat at 9! ...Yippee...
To be honest, I will just be glad to get some form of outdoor cricket in me
-
First and possibly only pre season game on Sunday ready for a season start on the 25th!

Surely guys retire at 50 ? And anyone not getting a good bat bowls 4+ overs?? It's a pre season game after all
-
I remember a junior game over 20 years ago we played a 40 over game we where asked to retire at 50 I thought bugger this and went on to score 120 not out rubbish retiring might as well not play

Rubbish for your mates watching you all day though too? Plus, isn't the point of pre season to get as many time in the middle and overs as you can? 5 people scoring 50 is better than 2 scoring 100's?
-
my role is to score runs there is to get me out I play hard and fair but not interested in retiring it a insult to the bowlers. Each to there own

Last year we put 300+ past quite a few clubs for the loss of 3-5 wickets. This year we've literally had to promise not to turn up with a good side or they wouldn't do a fixture. People simply don't want to play on games where either they don't get a good game on emir own side or get smashed by the oppos. These are fairly decent clubs too so it's not like they are weak old teams.
It is a hard thing to sell to people though, once people are on 50 hey want to keep goi and tend to forget about the other 7 guys sat there doing nothing. As you say, each to their own. Could be why participation is declining though

Na just play Saturday hard league cricket mate.
I suspect your talking about Sunday league where many average players go to bumf up there average to feel better hitting poor bowling. This is no slight on Sunday league stuff either just a opinion of when I played in Middlesex.
My theory is play hard play fair that's all but retiring is not in my game plan never has Been a youngster last year was told to retire on 50 he then went on to score his first ever ton.
Each to there own

first game of the season on april 19th has already be rearranged
