Title: Set Up and Stance
Post by: Mr Cricket on December 01, 2009, 09:22:43 PM
Post the fundamentals of your set up, gaurd, stance, grip, backlift and triggers on this thread...

my grip is high on the bat with my front hand wrapping quite far around the front of the bat, front elbow pointing toward the bowler. i like to have feet shoulder width apart on about leg stump, i also like to shuffle back and across as the bowler is delivering, opening out my front foot, and picking my bat up quite late to a low backlift. i like to think my head is over my front foot through the setup

I have a:

Highish grip, and conventional grip of the bat.
Elbow faces bowler
Guard was leg, but moving onto centre this year.
Back lift is high and blade faces gully, edges to the keeper if you get me!
Stance is fairly open, front foot moves across when bowler is in his delivery stride.
Not much of a trigger anymore, used to crap across though!
Weight is on the front foot, when short i find it easier to rock back and pull/hook etc.
Feet shoulder width apart.

Think thats about it!

Mine:

Half a octopus grip on the bottom half of my bat, then a whole octopus grip over top.
Elbow faces slightly towards the ground
Guard is in-between middle and off
Back lift comes to about my hips (im a strong lad, so i can use my powerful swing !)
Big tall stance (Tresco)
Been told i have a great trigger movement (just like trot apparently)
Weight evenly distributed on both feet.
Feet a little less than my shoulder width. (Big shoulders)

Think thats about it ?

Low grip :/
Elbow towards ground
Guard middle and leg
Back lift to hips cause of big build
Stand tall
No trigger
Weight even

take guard on middle (Have to go over it with my stud after every run ;D)
low backlift
elbow faces between bowler and mid on, bat is pointing to around 2nd slip
no trigger movement at all!
weight mostly on back foot so when i drive my whole body goes into the shot,
feet shoulder width apart
grip is bang on in the middle of the handle.

Lowish grip - need an extra grip though
Bat face pointing to 3rd slip
Highish backlift
Elbow faces mid off
Feet a little wider than my shoulders with a slightly open stance
Take a guard of Middle/2
Trigger movement - point my front foot toward straight mid off

Works for me :)

bat face pointing to 3rd slip?  surely that would mean your holding the bat backwards?!
