So i have been using my custom Red Ink x3 in the nets this winter and very pleased with it. I liked the look of John bats but i also wanted to experiment with a bat that had closer to SSH dimensions so i thought i would take the plunge and het one made.
I certainly spent some time knocking it in, from what i read on here it was definitely more than some but less than others. The edges were rounded nicely and the face was at the point where the mallet no longer made an indent.
I have loved the bat in nets and it definitely suits me, but despite my impeccable timing :o :o the bat needs a few running repairs.

I laid a load of glue in it yesterday (infilling a few times) and will be sanding it back later today.

Seam marks. Needs more knocking in bud ;)

I think it needs more knocking in as seam marks are showing or the balls you are using are rock hard

Yeah, your both right but i literally couldn't make a mark on the face no matter how hard i hit it with the mallet. The balls in nets were good, 100% certain on that.
If anything i should have gone a little more steady in the nets but when the balls in the cow arc, cow corner the ball needs to go! (favourite and only shot!)
I'm not worried about it too be honest, i got it as a bit of an experiment and its worked out well. I obviously want it too last as long as possible but its looking unlikely i will play much this season now so my idea to get another one made to similar specs but in a better grade has been put on the back burner until it looks like i will play more.

@Come in 5 and left a bit can sort out a good repair

Personal opinion is bat breaking balls.
You say they were good balls? Any particular brand or just a random lot of ex game balls?

Yeah, I would agree with the balls comment, or the willows very dry?
Would try and get a scuff sheet on it, if it can be repaired just to give a little bit more protection

This would be my opinion aswell. Seam marks are one thing but to cause that sort of damage that quickly is a good effort! Either the balls or you were going hammer and tongs!

Well I wasn't holding back. Balls will have been fine. I was netting with the Vitas crew and bag o balls were fine from what I could see.
I agree with most that more knocking in would prob be needed but it's all glued up now ready to sand later. I'll get the mallet out after finishing to see if I can get it a little harder.

Mostly top of the line used Tiflex league balls at my clubs nets. Not sure if Sam has been netting elsewhere too, but i can 100% say the balls we use aren't poo.

As @fattus cattus would say... No issues with the quality of jakes ball bag.
As with most of my game the issue is the thing between the bat and the floor.

I only ask. As I recieved similar damage (dent and cracks, not seam marks) from a sports direct ball on one of my bats I'd scored 500 plus runs with (so was knocked in)
But if jake says there good balls. There good balls. Very bizarre damage.
Time to give it more beef with the mallet.

Well 30 mins later here is the result. Glued it yesterday.
Orbital sander, 180 grit. 800 grit to finish. Oil

It might be a little dry... Who knows!
Like I said I'm not fussed about the damage, it was incredible value from red ink and made me realise what a proper bat could do to help my game.
Plus when this goes I have a Ssh H4l to bring into service!!!

Looks like you did a good job with the repairs. A little bit of tape and or a scuff would help too.
Would suggest it's probably a little light on knocking in. Although the bat mallet doesn't make any dents it's worth testing with s ball to make sure you are happy with it and it doesn't Seam mark too heavily. Willow is a funny thing and can take no knocking in or hours upon hours.
