Title: Knocking in Machine - What are the options?
Post by: EaglesCC on April 06, 2015, 12:53:35 PM
Without wanting to go into too much detail about why, I'm considering options about bat knocking in machines.

Can any of the retailers offer any advice about options please?

Thanks guys. This seems to be the only option that comes up on Internet searches. Just wondering if there are alternative at all? This is by no means cheap either.

B&S do have a knock in machine the prices quoted are out by quite a bit we have also done quite a bit of adjustments to make sure the machine does the job it's designed to do .There are several machines in the UK now I wont mention names as they may not wont to be knowen. Regarding price £20 including return postage I don't call steep £10 if you buy that bat from us

Sorry, not sure I understood that. Which prices quoted are out? I've taken those from their website. Not great to have to make adjustments after paying that much.

Would be interested to know if any other companies offer alternative.

I think we're talking about the same machine here.

Eags - have you spoken to Dan @ Chase?  I had a bat knocked in by him and it went like a rocket. I'm sure he has some kind of machine.

I beleive they share a knocking in machine with Serious Cricket next door, but that's just an assumption on my part

I've got 3 bats (B3  butterfly, H4L Hellfire and a Monty Mace) knocked in by Jason @ cricket store online for $120 and the results were mixed imo. Monty Mace felt the best (and it was also the softest bat of the 3), B3 was ok and I feel it needs a little bit of work before I can deem it ready, but I found that the grains started to open up. H4L needs a lot more knocking in get the ping they are known for (or I got a bad willow, which is a rarity).

It's not a knocking in service I'm after. It's the machine itself mate.

A bit off topic but most machines can be set to carry out a certain 'number of hits' (for want of a better description). I would say that this knocking in process is predominantly to reduce the chances of damage - not to 'open up' the bat. It just so happens that often bats tend to start opening up at the same time. It's an unrealistic expectation to have all bats performace the same after a session under the machine.

Yes, the point being, discussing with him the type of machine he has and where he got it from?

Don't fall into my IQ club mate  :D

For the record i dont Jason knows what hes talking about, i asked him for some advice on some cheap cricket balls that are not rocks, and he advised me to get some CA balls!!I have spent some time searching for cheap alternative balls to eg. Kookaburra, Dukes and even Readers and i have found out hat there just arent any. All the cheap balls are rocks and do damage to quality bats. Might as well throw bricks at your bats to be honest. I have learnt the hard way to not skimp out on cricket balls.

Haha too late for that mate clearly. Their machine is interesting and different I have to say. It's more of a mallet action rather than the punch action of the more common ones.

I might give them a call when I'm feeling cheeky enough to ask.
