Title: Workouts for Cricket
Post by: gazr5 on April 06, 2015, 06:05:18 PM
Hey guys,

Been doing running for a few weeks in an attempt to get a bit fitter for the season but it is very boring and doesn't seem to be cricket specific.

Are there any workouts I can do? I'm a batsman and only bowl the odd over in Sunday friendly matches so dont need bowling specific.

Practice putting your gear on, taking it off again and sitting in the bar.
Can't get much more cricket specific than that!  ;)

Hill sprints work really well for building your fitness there tough but really effective

What are you looking to get better at ?

General fitness and strength as I get tired and lose concentration and technique. Also would like to work a bit on my speed. I've always been one of the quickest runners between the wickets and fielding but have started to slow down over the last couple of seasons.

Perfect!

Think I will practice sitting at the bar first, dont want to overload myself. Do you think I'm ready to progress to drinking?

I would suggest HIIT, though that would not solve your boredom problem.

Another solution would be to pick up squash or any other high intensity, start, stop, sport really.

It's probably best to practice that as much as possible, will that 7th pint tip you over the edge so you're useless in the field? Only one way to find out  ;)

If you have some weights collecting dust somewhere (you don't need them but they make it harder) try squats. Lots of videos on youtube on how to do them correctly. Really good for back, thighs and bum. I do them mostly for my keeping but helps generally. Also plenty of core exercises, again youtube have a loads of videos, planks etc are good as they can help you keep your shape when you're tired.

Will do this. Fitness is poor it costs me runs because I lose shape and concentration and end up getting out to silly shots.
