Title: Kit Watch 2015
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on April 18, 2015, 07:52:49 PM
It's that time of year again where I play a brand of cricket so awful, I have to look at the other teams kit to take my mind off my own misery!

On show today were:

Choice Praetorian softs and a woodstock your de force platinum
A nice red back
A very grainy GM Six6 original
An old school chase held together with tape

There was also a bat with a Bat on the stickers which wasn't a BAS, no idea what it was though

8 of our opposition Used M&H bats. Was Taunton though. can't blame them. never seen a bad M&H. One guy turned up,wearing a South Africa shirt and carrying a B&S bag.

Saw a very nice GM icon yesterday that pinged from every part of the bat.
New Affinity pads and gloves also on show looked stunning

Most interesting thing I saw yesterday was the oppositions full B3 whites!

There was some nice willow on display yesterday!

One of the openers had a Chase 4LC that I spend about 25 overs looking at.

Their top scorer (93) was using a nice TON, blue stickers but had removed the model from the front and back. It looked like one of those really low middled ones Jake posted the other day though.

Their Aussie had a very grainy kahuna, and it sent the ball a long way.

Also on show was an almost perfect condition GM epic, another Chase 4LC, a Spartan MC 2000, a Chase R7 and, last & least, a sports direct special Slazenger!

3 b3s and 2 highly concaved hunt counties.

Only 1 bat out them troubled the scorers. One of the hunts. And it had a lovely middle.

Opening bat started batting with a knackered Australian Newbery, eventually swapped it for a much nicer Warsop Marlin which looked and sounded much better.

Number 3 had some interesting kit choices, Salix bat along with those hideous M&H T1 pads and a Adidas Ayrtek with a carbon finish and pump liner.

Oppo yesterday had a rather battered selection of bats - however the 3 guys who got their runs all had decent weapons.

A very large and grainy Big Kahuna, a very new looking GN Fusion and the best, a Willostix Stick, which I had my eye on!

Club with full B3 stash including our hats around 10 B3 bats and a very nice looking Bradbury Butterfly...

Also so a unbranded bat with a whopping 43 grains i counted them whilst standing up bit sad really.

1 battered slazanger that hit us for 70 odd
1 Norfolk bat which had no sign of use on it.
A old school Gray Nicholls which had a good middle.
A New Balance which planted one on my right ankle and for good measure planted me back over my head into the long grass.

Where as we had 2 Puma's, 1 Hunts, 1 Kooka, 3 Blenheim's ,2 G N, 1 Woodworm and a Bumblebee!

Saw for the first time an H4L being used by an oppo team. It was an an exel 666. The one with the red stickers. It looked great, shame it was being used by a guy who favoured the leg side to every ball.

Yesterday saw the usual selection of Kook's and GN's and a very nice M&H Harlequin used to good effect.

Oppo opener who scored 50 out of the first 56 runs and then 94 out of 137 was using a very well used orange stickered Matrixx - loads of tape but it flew a long way.

I spotted a CP Spectrum Edition being used yesterday; nice looking stick. The chap who owned it said that his son was sponsored by CP and he got his bat through them. Also a nice M&H Amplus which sounded lush, and the biggest GN F18 I've seen. It was the LE; the edges were enormous, but it picked up like a feather. Sadly it was used mainly for some large agricultural heaves to leg!

My own Salix Supernatural was also not used to it's potential either, seeing a paltry 11 before an LBW put a humane end to the knock!  :(

A guy in the oppo had a A61 750i Colossus, weighty, but lovely pickup. Not sure why he didn't use the Powerbow LE he also had. Poor bloke could not do anything but bunt with it... Also a YAS and a Sommers.

Not much to report of interest among the bats of my new team, apart from a lovely old Insignia LE, a beast of an Onhand Sports and a couple of nice Hits Hards.

One of the oppo today was kitted out in Blue room kit although was all the pink kit which didn't look great in my opinion in the flesh but bat sounded nice.

Opener had a HUGE Kippax Wavex lovely grains, he made 80odd and some flew off the middle, couldn't decide after staring at it for 35 overs if I actually liked the profile or not.

About 50% of the bats used in our game today were GN, including a couple of lovely looking Powerbows. Also the oppo used 3 woodworm.

One young lad in our team was using his dad's ancient Newbury - it was older than him - but unfortunate was showing its age and not got much left in it.

Opening bat for the oppo had a blueroom that did its job, scored 80 odd. No. 3 had a Newbery Thuxton SPS with some very straight grains. Finally, no.4 had a brand new Salix, gorgeous bit of willow.

I watched Dorset vs Hampshire in a T20 warm up, Dorset opener Masoor Kahn using Blank Bats stick.
Ervines Spartan was huuuuge.
Carbs got triggered 3rd ball of the day, given out ct behind, wasn't happy with the decision, must have hit the floor on his shot

Missed last Saturday but the previous Saturday played against a guy who played very nicely for 123no using a GM 1885 - which sounded superb.  Don't think I've ever seen one in a game (presumably why they got binned!)

A team mate has acquired his brother's Mjolnir - it's an absolute gun...

Some nice kit on display yesterday.

The opposition opener was using a bat with a logo I recognised, but it wasn't until after the game I realised where I'd seen it before. @Bambooman's profile picture! I didn't get to judge how well the bat went though as the bloke wielding it was out LBW early on.

Also on display was a lovely dynadrive that scored 70-odd.
A vantage Lithium
A nice looking salix sent the ball over the fence for the winning runs.
There was also a New Balance TD560 that made a very nice noise (and I love this season's stickers!)

All the quality kit on show almost made the 2 hour drive to the game worth it alone!

There was a nice Bradbury used by one of the opposition today.

One of them was usuing all blank gear (I'm assuming OLS) that looked really classy.

Their centurion was using a GM Apex (old school and more break than bat but pinged well)

I was more interested in the kit on show than I was the cricket itself, I'm starting to think playing isn't my thing...

Oppos number 4 had a great nicola scoop. And not a recent one. A very thin old one covered completely in the old white fibre sheet.
Was flaking while he was at the crease.

His pads and gloves seemed similar vintage too and yet he was only about 24?

A classic gray nics lover? Hand me downs? Who knows. He didn't last that long.

Oppo top 4 included two Lavers and one M&H. One of the lavers was really nice, it had a lovely sound and a great middle, luckily I got the owner to edge to the keeper on 49, he got a ton off us at the beginning of the season.

I forgot a few from yesterday, there were two nice Chase bats,

I got a guy out who was using a very nice looking SS Herotage (very concaved) and there were a couple of bats that I was sort of interested in. Was pleas a Slazenger V100 that made a lovely noise, and the other being an old GN fusion that peppered the boundary.

Came up against a Willostix Slugger this weekend,

Bat seemed to go well enough, sort of matched the batsmen who "slugged" everything, personally thought it was one of the uglier bats I have seen.

Looked like half the team used the same stick though, it re-appeared 2/3 times.

Woodstock had out "sponsorship" like Xmas cards so little Jonny (and Steve, Kev, Peter & Brian for that matter) probably think they're the muts nuts because they're "sponsored".

Mummy & Daddy are likely proud to tell everyone their son is "sponsored" which will lead to the question 'how did they get that?' So half the county end up "sponsored" by Wodstock because a load of parents asked nicely!

Worst i saw last season was a guy leaving the cotton filling of his old pads all over the pitch as he was running as it trickled out of a hole.
That matched is fibre tape of the face of his bat slow unraveling the longer he batted.

Played at Deddington Saturday in the OCA.  The opening batsman had an OX-SPORT bat, never seen one before.  To be honest I didn't get a good look, just a sneaky peak from mid-on.  The stickers were not great but the grains look very good. and it went ok.

Couple of nice grainy GM Originals on Saturday.
One a Six6, the other an Apex used by their overseas player.

As they batted most of the innings I didn't see much else, but there was a cameo appearance of a GN (I think F18 with only the top stickers left on) that had a lovely flutterby stain on the back.

Played against Compton House, they're near yeovil so always good to see some @Bulldog Cricket bats on display. They made 230 odd for 9.
My first 7 overs went for 7 runs, nearly had 4 maidens on the trot but I bowled a wide! No wickets tho...
Came back to finish the innings off got pumped for a biggun then got the lad out bowled next ball.
Another came in and gave it a biff before getting him LBW, then I had an absolute pie dropped off my bowling last ball of their innings. Finished with 9 overs 2-26
Took 3 catches and some good diving saves.

Chipped in with 24 but we fell 40 short.
