Today I learned that we are using rock hard balls for our practice games. These balls are also very old and some speculate that they weigh more than normal cricket balls. Once I learned about that factoid, I quietly put away my Amplus and pulled out an old faithful bat from the bag which is nearing the end of its life. As I hit a few strokes, I realized how balls was slowing down even though I hit very hard.
What is your approach for dealing with cheap/hard balls? Do you continue to use your nice bats or do you put them away and pull out an old faithful from your bag?
I think I should wait for the league games to start before I use my nicer bats in a match since league games use better balls.

I got one on the inside of the toe of my new aldred yesterday. Made a horrible sound and small surface dent. I wouldve been disappointed but my batting display was a lot worse than that

We netted yesterday, my b3 butterfly is now missing a fairly large section of the toe!! Not a bat breaker ball, just one of the lads who was using it trying to wallop a wide yorker!!

Tell whoever made this decision to use good condition ex match balls. That's what everyone else uses for friendlies don't they?

We buy a couple of extra league balls and use those so we practice with what we are going to use in the season. That's the agreement we have with the opposition aswell.

Our Club buys(or should i say bought) kookaburra balls so no problem here

Always use my net bat against cheap bat breaker balls which is the same spec as my match bat.

We netted yesterday, my b3 butterfly is now missing a fairly large section of the toe!! Not a bat breaker ball, just one of the lads who was using it trying to wallop a wide yorker!!
Actually, what is (or should be) the protocol if you lend your bat to a team mate who then busts it up from trying something like this? What if the bat is beyond repair? Are they up to buy you a new bat or do you just not lend out your gear?

Slightly different as this wasn't down to misuse, but...
I've leant a bat to a teammate that came back in pieces (specifically the handle was one and the blade the other!)
My attitude was "(No Swearing Please) happens" so I held no grudges over it, nor would i accept any money when offered as:
1) it's wood, a natural product. You never know when it's going to break, and it's inevitable a bat will eventually break anyway.
2) the splice just popped out, it looked like one of those things that was going to happen regardless.

I lent our sporadic opener my ton lady year. The handle snapped when he was on 99. And he got out first ball with new bat.
Thankfully handle replaced for free by ton. But wouldn't have been fussed either way. As I chose to lend it.
Lent a returning aussie mate a b3 over the winter. Handles just gone on that and not repairable..... I must be made as lent him another.

I would never ever lend a bat?
Would rather give somebody a bat and they be responsible for it.
As for batting against bat breaking balls, the people responsible for them should lend out their bats for practising high catches that they have to take.
These balls don't just break bats!

Always use my net bat against cheap bat breaker balls which is the same spec as my match bat.
That is the benefit of owning more than a few bats. I have a choice to make this morning ( which bat to take )and I intend to take only one. I was looking forward to using my Amplus as it has been OUTSTANDING in the nets!
Maybe I will take my butterfly today.

Bulk purchase and we are paying the price (via risk to our bats). I have heard that the recent purchase is a better quality ball.

These balls don't just break bats!
We fielded first and majority of outs were catches. Those shots were played out of desperation - got bruises on my hands and couple of body blows.

I'll start a thread later on with some photos to see if anyone can fix it. I'm not overly bothered, as cam said, these things happen!! It typically was the last ball of his net and the bowler only bowled a wide Yorker as he'd been smashing everyone all round the ground!! The bat sounded awesome off the stain!!

The bat breaker balls are mainly from South Asian manufacturers.....As i feel the ball is hard i just refuse to bat at practice and ask to put away the ball.
I normally grab the ball from our league matches and have all the time 5-6 balls and whenever i practice i ask the baller to ball with balls i provide.
Its a terrible feeling when a bad ball breaks the bat.
