Title: Today's the day
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on April 20, 2015, 09:17:27 AM
I've got a few bits on order at the moment and I've been waiting for the postman daily for what feels like forever. I've got a few repair projects and some brand new kit en route to me and I'm not sure what im most excited about.

Anyway, I've just had a message saying I have a massive package. I also had a message saying a large box has been delivered.

What will it be? Pictures to follow when I get home to open it, but I am absolutely buzzing!  :D

Fnaarr!!!

In the interests of extending such phallic cricketing innuendos, we had a screamer on Saturday when our opening bowler was complaining about the middle on the new bat his wife had bought him for Christmas..."she should know a thing or two about disappointing wood, eh Steve?"

And it was the 4 "repairable" bats on eBay

Moral of the story - don't buy broken bats on ebay

At least you'll have plenty of firewood come the old months.

I hope you didnt overpay for them

The two Warsops will probably scrub up ok, no idea how they'll play though, the other two look like lost causes.

Just made a start on the Warsop platinum, under the tape there was a 3 inch strip of willow missing too.

To say I'm gutted is an under statement  :(

The guy selling those bats has massively ripped you off. proper firewood. Is there anything you can do to send them back or something?

They aren't repairable - that is a lie on the listing the guy selling those bats would have known that.

Got to say I agree - at least two of them are beyond any form of repair and that must have been known to the vendor from the outset - as such his listing was more or less fraudulent.  Obviously, there is a postage issue that could cause complications, but I'd be inclined to pitch for at least 50% of what you paid back...

I have put a claim into eBay, fingers crossed I get a refund (and best case I get to keep the bats for the wood burner too!)

I know I took a gamble on these but I've been put right off buying 2nd hand bats now. Not sure if I'm upset, angry, disappointed or all three!  >:(  :(

Cam,

Hopefully you get a good result from it. The seller would have known they were not repairable..

Give ebay a ring, they usually deal with cases faster and explain the situation

Sorry to hear they turned out to be a bad lot Cam. Hopefully the other parcel you are expecting will arrive soon and will put the smile back on your face.

Another ebay seller to add to the list of ones to avoid - is there a thread on here with those names in one place for members to refer to?

I second this, different circumstances but i called up to have some negative feedback removed (left because the buyer couldnt read) over the phone they sorted it immediately

I would be inclined to reply - "the dictionary definition of repairable is "in a state whereby the item can be made good by any process" and it is clear that there is no way to make these bats good.  You will also wish to note that you omitted the main damage from the photos stated, which created what I believe to be a deliberately false perspective on the future useability of the bats.  Your call, but I am confident that ebay will invoke their buyer protection in this instance"

Just spoken to eBay, I have to wait until 29th April before I escalate my claim.
The woman on the phone looked at my pictures added to the case and said I shouldn't have any problem.

Just got to wait now!

And as @Chalkie said, hopefully another package will arrive and put a smile on my face soon

Sorry  Cam that you have been ripped off  but the key here is they were advertised as repairable also goods have to be fit for purpose in this instance repairable which I don't believe is the case.

Just read this thread. This sucks. Hopefully you get the refund.

At my workplace one time a guy was scammed via ebay, bought volkswagen jetta for around $3000 and never received the car. and he paid using western union. So no protection by ebay in that case.

definitely should get your money back on these as if there are parts that he didn't describe (i.e. the bit you mentioned about the warsop and the 3inch missing piece) he has scammed you, there is no way some of these look repairable from your photos - his did not show all of the damage and the listing was vague (i put in an offer on these and would have felt the same as you if i had got what you got)- best of luck getting all of your cash back!!!!

Here's a quick rundown of what I got.

Master 1000 bat
5 fibreglass scuff sheets
1 bat care kit
A panoma hat
An Aerolite thigh guard set.

The master has its own thread  :D

The scuff sheets were cheap, and will hopefully stay stuck on bats.

The bat care kit was a roll of tape, a toe guard set and a clear scuff sheet. Customs removed the raw linseed oil.

The panoma is a bit big but I can live with it.

The thigh guard set is nice and light. It is however a bit small for me. It's an Indian product for indian consumers, I'm guessing the target audience therefore isn't 6"1 fatso's so that's not unexpected.

Right - final word on the eBay situation until something happens.

The seller is adamant they don't want returns.
I will therefore keep the bats, refurb the ones I feel I can and burn the dead ones!

If I get my money back or not is now irrelevant, I've written it off as a bet I lost and moved on.
Life's too short to get stressed about such things. The only (negative?) inpact this will have on me is that I won't be able to go to the bookies for a while so whatever will be will be.

Without further ado, the refurbishments have started!
