Folks,
I will not disclose the name of the vendor/sponsor, but I want to use the power of crowdsourcing to select the best cleft.
Which one would you pick?

3rd to the right looks the cleanest face. Doesn't mean it's the most responsive though!
-
1st from left

I agree, that one looks the nicest and would be the one I would chose if you only have the pictures to go from.
-
Looks like B3, I'd say 3rd from the right for me.
-
1st on the left any day.
-
Middle right would be my choice

Middle right would be my choice
I'd go with that

One with a horizontal bar at the bottom?
-
Far right would be my choice. I like the strip of dark wood.
-

Why didn't you pick the one behind the door?
-
First from left. Nice even 10 grains, my preferred number. It will be nice and white once they clean it up.
-

I'm confused by that.
-
1st from left
Ditto
-

I am just joking :D There are four clefts. There are two in the middle (left & right or 2nd from left or 2nd from right).
-
number one! lovely grains all sapwood!

Ahh I thought it might have been something like that.... You right though there are 2 in the middle, left and right.
That's probably why I said middle right[emoji12], I guess I could have said right middle or even the middle one of the 3 on the right [emoji41]
In reality the op should get them all. It's the only answer.
-
Far left for me.
-
Both of the middle two tickle my fancy, but I'd go for the 2nd left one if it were me.
-
The ugliest! !
Second from left.
-
1st left
-

You don't mind the blemish/bar?
-
1st left
-
Seems like the first left is winning.
-

I love blemishes on my willow, it adds character (and costs less!) ;)
-
Hehe
-
The lightest one.

If there all graded the same you have to ask why that one is there?
Is it a performer?
Or is it the other 3 have been downgraded?
Either way, it's the one to have!
-
Depends what you are looking for. Looks, performance, a bat to go from the off or open up later. What's the pressing like?
Ask the bat maker which one he prefers and listen to what he says and see is it in line with your thinking.
Don't fall for, "I listen to what a customer thinks he wants then I tell him what he needs". What he really means is that he's limited in what he can make so can't give you what you want. A long while ago a non-sponsor did this, 'eh fella'?
-
To answer the question, middle left. I'd expect to pay less than the rest though.
The one behind the door could be a go'er also.

You are making your judgement based on process of elimination not by looking at the grain structure or even blemishes?

I did ask the batmaker's opinion on the cleft he would select for a pro. I understand that nobody here has held or tapped the clefts (neither have I) but nobody chose the cleft that the bat maker thought he'd select for a pro.

So you are asking us to judge clefts on looks and comparing that to the opinion of the bat maker.
-
Cleft 3 due to the grains being more promeinent.

Not comparing but getting a broad view of what people think is a good cleft. No right or wrong answers here just curiosity .

3rd from left (second from right)?
-
Number 4
-
Forget the looks they are all good, so go for the lightest.
-
4th from right.
-
The one that plays the best and feels the best after making.
-
If they have all been graded the same then I'd go for the lightest. If they are all the same weight I'd go second from left.
-
If everything else remains same i.e. Price, finishing, performance, weight, size & pickup I would go for 2'nd from the right only on looks. I would also be interested in the 1'st from left as it has more "Matured" looking grains.
-
If there pressed and have a hadle ill take the one on the left haha
