Title: Removing residue from a bat

Hi guys

I know it's been discussed before, but I'm curious following a conversation with a teammate the other day.

They said that they use WD40 to remove sticker and scuff sheet residue, as it was less liquids than white spirit - meaning it didn't soak into the wood and damage it.

I thought white spirit evaporated quickly enough this wasn't an issue, while the WD40 would soak in as it lingers for longer.

Anyone tried both to compare results? I think I'll stick to the tried and tested white spirit method personally but I'm interested to know what everyone else thinks.

It's probably totally wrong thing to use, but I used some of the missus' nail polish remover when cleaning up an old bat last year. Also got slightly high off it!

I always use DIY sticky stuff remover works a treat and does not harm the willow.

Never had a problem with white spirit. Put on a rag/bit of kitchen towel and wipe.

Same for me. Have used an old credit card to scrape off anything left over using a rag or kitchen towel

Used it once or twice. Made opening and closing the face a bit easier

Small amount of Turps on a folded paper towel. Removes the glue and cleans cherries and much off the stickers.

I'm for white spirit, used it the other day and it works a treat. Used a rag rather than kitchen towel though as the paper fell apart and left bits everywhere.
