Title: Batting Glove Repair - Feasible?
Post by: Rob580 on May 06, 2015, 10:50:19 AM
Morning Chaps,

I've got a pair of Newbery TT Gloves, which i love and have had for just over a season (2 Games a week, plus nets & Winter Nets) and somehow i've managed to wear a hole in the unpadded thumb, on the front, finger printy bit. Other than that, they're in pretty good nick.

I've been using my spare pair, Some GM 909 somethingotothers (the orange ones) but i find i need to keep undoing them and doing them up again, just to keep them pulled down on my hands, as they seem to be a touch too big, even though, by most standards i have pretty big hands!

So my quetion is, has anyone ever repaired the leather part of their gloves? Was it successful? How long did it last? I'm guessing i should turn the thumb inside out and sew a small piece of leather over the hole? My only concern is this then being too thick and not being able to get the glove all the way on! Or maybe i need to find an old pair of gloves and cut the thumb off them and exchange it for the one on my gloves?

Any ideas / experiences? I don't think they make the TT gloves anymore and i'm too cheap to go out and buy a new, different, pair of gloves as they seem to be extortionate amounts of money these days.

Cheers,
Rob

Cut down a simple cheap pair of Inners to fingerless except the thumb or wear inners. If not I would buy a very cheap pair from eBay and cut a piece or leather out and stitch over worn area.

That's not actual true I would buy a new pair with matching bat, net bat, pads, bag, whites and keeping gear but that's just me lol

Thanks, that makes sense, i'm sure i can find an old pair of gloves to butcher.

True, really i should buy some new ones, but i'm a bit of a skin-flint like that.

Sounds like you've got your moneys worth out of them to me. Just trawl through ebay or have a flick through online stockist and I'm sure you could find something cheap
