I presume they'll be giving them free to all masuri helmet owners.
-
Any news on price?
-
They will be £49.99 and available for both junior and senior ranges.
-
Would be good to get some feedback as to whether our CBF members would pay £50 for the guard?

If you send me one free of charge (along with a titanium lid to Fit it to) I'll give feedback as to if its worth the money ;)

Seems expensive as one can get a good helmet for that price ..so for an accessory to be cost close to the price of original product itself ...for sure sounds pricey
49.99 to prevent a serious head injury ...if you look at it that way its worth it
Its a new product and has this been tested completely and is it reliable...not sure
for sure there will be cheaper options coming out from other manufacturers.

Way over priced!
Masuri looking to cash in on safety accessory whilst they can

As you asked, my view is that it seems about £20 too expensive - even at £30 it feels expensive. I appreciate that there is a fair amount of design and involved - and I think the design looks pretty good personally. I also appreciate that you are seeking to protect an otherwise unprotected and vulnerable area. for the time being I won't be jumping in to buy one. Much like apple products - it pays not to buy the first one and wait until second or third editions are made.
My suspicion is that in time when numbers and a market can be established economies of scale can be used better to bring the price down - but in the mean time...
-
Max I'd pay is £30 and I'm a religious helmet wearer, I wouldn't ever bat without a lid on but then my current helmet didn't cost me £150 already...
-
Some very interesting comments and valid points. The stem guard is an addition to the helmet, so at £50 we also feel the price is rather steep.
We were initially under the impression that there was to be one standard guard for all the helmets, however from the information received today, it would appear that we have a variety of colours and model types.
We will discuss this with Masuri and hopefully have some further clarification.

Very expensive for club/amateur cricketers, but Masuri need to make money somewhere after giving away thousands of helmets to professional players..

Something they claim quite vehemently they don't do......
-
An update on this:
Each model in the Masuri range (Club/Test/Elite) will have its own stem guard with one standard size.
Delivery will be in August so we are still some time away from stocks being available.

I refuse to believe Giles would call them 'the formula one of helmets' without some form of inducement!

In all honesty, I would probably fork out the cash to get one, mainly cause a bad hit to the head is pretty much the only really serious, possibly permanent injury you can get in cricket. Even a broken rib will be good as new in a month or so. Also, getting hit in the head is probably going to happen to everyone at some point or another. That said, in my opinion, this almost feels like car manufacturers charging £5k for airbags even though it only costs them a fraction of that to make them; most people who can afford it will pay cause they don't want to die, but it seems wrong to charge too much just because you have people's safety in your hands.
On the other hand, if they are using some sort of super complex manufacturing process and exotic materials, and it costs close to £50 to manufacture, then I will happily retract the above.
tl;dr It seems too expensive. But I'd still pay, because safety.

A bit of an update on the Masuri Stem Guards.
Delivery has now been revised to early September with production to start sometime in August.
Whereas we were initially informed that there would be a different guard for all of the 3 styles in the range, the situation now is that there will be one guard for both the Elite and Test helmets, and a separate one for Club helmets. The Club one will however be available in 2 sizes as there is a junior and senior club helmet.
-
Funny how masuri's PR army aren't talking about that are they?
-
(The delay that is)
-
I agree. It's been talked about since early this year and we've seen numerous players using it in matches, but by the time we see it, it will be the end of the season.
-
Bit of an update on the delivery dates. Having spoken to Masuri is afternoon, they are planning to start dispatching to retailers week commencing 14th September.
-
Good thing the season won't be over by then, oh wait... :-[
