From the game tonight against Dehli, looks very much like an SS to me with the TON branding coloured over with black pen.

A Spartan bat that was made by SS? Don't be so silly, such a thing would never happen! ;) :D
-
The TON stamps seem to be the most effective and recognisable form of bat branding around at the moment as they always seem to be visible whatever stickers are put on the bat.
-
in one of the shots of the bat you could see the "maximus" logo stickers residue marks
-
Not good for the Spartan brand, as it is so obvious

A Spartan that is just a stickered up SS - isn't that the only kind anyway?? (Although usually the stamps aren't present) ;)
-
Too hard for Dhoni to sand or spokeshave the stamping off. Some things are just so beneath first class players, even when sponsors are paying them a ransom to have them advertise their gear. Looks to me like he might have a foot on eitherside of the fence.
-
Well I can't imagine Dhoni gets much time with a spokeshave! You only need to see how tough it is for him to have a haircut in peace!
-
Just thought that they would make more effort to cover it up considering how much they are paying in endorsements

I don't think the sponsors give a flying badword to be honest, maybe 5% of the audience will notice and maybe only a small portion of then will know what it actually means.
-
Or just do what Mo Ali has done and cover it up using a wood coloured tape or something similar and not just marker pen it out.
-
tbh, I'm slightly surprised that Spartan don't clean it up and sticker it for him. Like, do they send him a contract along with a pack of stickers and tell him to get to work?
-
You'd think their contracts would have some guidelines on restickering. Anyway it only looks bad for Spartan up until the point where he hits his third consecutive six to win the match. As said, its only people who buy cricket bats that would notice he's using a TON.
On the other side of the coin TON only need to supply a Sharpie to their sponsored players.

Maybe a stencil too. You know, so it looks legit ;)

I recently refurbed my refurbished SS, and the stamps were in a right state!
After a good sand down, with nothing more than a ruler and a sharpie, the stamps went from looking like this:

Weird, it looks like one of the TON logos was etched in more than the other. Nice job with the marker, and if you ever want a spartan instead, you can just scribble over the top of them. Job done.

Did someone delete my post off this page? :o

What was your post about?
Said I have a MRF bat who also do similar sketching to TON.
Also said I follow cricmart.in on Facebook and they had a post the other day talking about Dhoni using ss- could it be this? It's hardly insider information, it's on their Facebook page? ???

You could also just write SPAR in front of the TON bit and hope no one notices the spelling error...

Brand Dhoni is much bigger than brand Spartan... :D
-
How many people (other than the forumites, of course :)) would notice something like this? Not many I believe. One of my friends, who is a good cricketer bought a Spartan Dhoni range bat just because of Dhoni.
-
Unrelated, but I knocked in a Spartan MSD 7 T20 edition last week for someone. Nice bat for grade 2. Also did edge repairs and clean ups on a Ton R7 and a Reserve Edition. People just don't understand these flat faced bats need the edges rounded. Reserve Edition had a toothpick for a handle that was part cracked. Suspect quality for such a expensive bat. Sorry forgot to take pics of the Spartan and Reserve Edition, but got some of the R7 and a BDM i resurrected from the big with some major grafts.

Just ignore the login and close it the view the pics.
Now back to Dhoni being a too lazy to get his bat looking like a Spartan....
-
I think the new way SS is branding the TON logo onto their bats is far better than it used to be, I hate black maker pen >:(
-
I didn't feel this warranted a new topic so I thought I'd put it in here. Looks like another player not using what the stickers on the front seem to suggest, although he could have simply removed the sticker from the top of the handle and we wouldn't be any of the wiser. The funny thing is that the photo was on Hell4Leathers facebook page about 30 mins ago but has now subsequently been removed, odd that.

believe the gloves which dhoni uses are the bas ones with spartan branding on them..
-
Dhoni has been using only SS bats till now. Spartan is just a branding logo for him. At sometimes i feel like the players want people to know that they aren't using the sponsors bat :D
As Suraj pointed out the gloves is a BAS with Spartan labels. Same BAS gloves are labelled as MRF for Virat Kohli.
-

Am not sure they would be bothered a bit, eBay is overflowing with Spartan and a few other brand labels. If the sponsored players do this, who can blame an average consumer for stickering up a third party bat with these? When contracted players take money from the sponsors, they should at least use a bat with no other branding on it (unless they are paid by these brands also). Please see the below link; this is much better than what a few others are doing (then again the gloves are of a different brand!!!).

I read a Cricinfo article recently where David Gower talked about the bat used during his golden Ashes summer of 1985 (700+ runs in the series, captaining England to a 3-1 win).
He was at a friends house and his friend's son showed Gower his bat. When seeing it ping 'like nothing before' Gower decided the bat was too good for his friend's son (who I assume was using a full size bat!) and traded an existing bat for this one. He got Gray Nicolls to sticker it up and used it throughout that Ashes series.
A 30-year old example of pros stickering up their bats with sponsor's stickers...
-
Is anyone really surprised that re-stickering bats takes place by the pros? I remember one of the Aussies saying that Warner has been known to pinch bats out of bags and re-sticker them.
