I think I know the "trick", normally involves cutting the match track 3 times in the week prior to let the sun bleach/burn the grass. Might be wrong and obviously keeping rain off helps. Any other thoughts?

In the time my father and I did a wicket we used to cut it every day from mon to sat. Each day would be cut, then sweep it ( to clear debris and raise the blades), then cut again. Obviously watering it a little and rolling a little.
Then Saturday morning it would get two or three more cuts (sweeping after each), roll and boom,,, was hard and white. With the roots still in the ground to keep it together
It was true, good carry and quick. Seamers would get movement with a new ball then die away so gave a balance between bat and ball.

Easiest way is cutting low but lots of brushing and cutting may be needed. Would normally trim to match height on Thursday as turns whiter by Friday then trim Friday. The White is the base of shaft not live grass.
