Title: Can anyone help identify what bat this is?
Post by: Chalkie on May 27, 2015, 09:30:21 PM
Hi guys,

Picked this up off eBay the other day, was advertised as a Warsop and seller couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me which model.

It's a nice stick, few years old but not been used much, taps up really well and light, just under 2.7 (was advertised at 2.9)

although there are no stickers there are feint outlines on the front and back, and in particular the one on the spine looks like a lizard shape (10-12 inches long) which seems familiar but I can't place it......

(http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o744/alasdairwhite/image.jpg2_zps3pla9jlu.jpg) (http://s1341.photobucket.com/user/alasdairwhite/media/image.jpg2_zps3pla9jlu.jpg.html)

(http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o744/alasdairwhite/image.jpg3_zpsqittw1hh.jpg) (http://s1341.photobucket.com/user/alasdairwhite/media/image.jpg3_zpsqittw1hh.jpg.html)

Looks similar shape to Warsop perfection but the stickers don't match (they could of course be from a different brand).

Any thoughts on make/model?

Cheers

@hell4leather cricket - Did they use a lizard emblem or is there something else that suggests that?

Although Warsop dont use a lizard it doesnt look too dissimilar to their 5 star model (Now called clubmax i believe)

There was a company who seem to dish out sponsorship like its going out of fashion that might use a lizard? Gecko cricket i think it was.

Was it willostix that had snake ranges or something. Don't think they had their own maker so possibly made by choice or was it Salix?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Gecko is a good call, that was the lizard I was thinking of, but it seems to be a different shape to the one they use now.

Willostix do have a snake range, but don't think they had lizards.

Am I right in thinking Warsop stamp their bats with a date near the shoulder to show when they were made" as I can't see one?

The other sticker on the back is a small shield shape (2 inches across and 4 down), and the main one also looks like a shield (almost full width and 6inches down).

Think I may email a couple of these brands and see if they recognise it.

I was thinking kippax also, looks a bit like a big version of the kip dragon thing

It definitely looks like an older bat from around 2000-2005. Potentially a GM. I had a GM Purist Original that had a shape very similar to that.

On second thoughts, the grains aren't straight enough to be a GM that would be sold in a shop. ???

Not sure what u know what you are talking about as I am pretty sure this isn't a GM stick, and despite what u say GM sell some pretty low grade willow through shops and this definitely a decent grade.

lets hear what it is then if you say I don't know what I'm taking about? Bats have changed a lot in the last ten years and that was just my thoughts as I have had one that looked similar!

I am not an expert but it is hardly used and in great condition so would be surprised if it was as old as you suggest.

It was sold to me as a Warsop and they agree it could be a Superior, but Choice have also said it could be one of theirs. These seem the most likely options.

Either way it has decent grains, feels great and taps up really well so happy with the purchase.

I appreciate the suggestions from the forum.

The idea of this forum is for people's opinions and suggestions! Warsopmcould be a great shout. Was it blank when it came to you?

Bit harsh mate.

Yeah, having read it back I agree - apologies to @RSpall.

I have cleaned it up and this is the result. Taps up really well and a light bat at just under 2.7.

Yes, it came as a blank - photos of what it looked like when it arrived are in the first post on this thread

Yeah, pleased with it but wish it was a little heavier, I tend to use 2.9, so not sure if I will keep it

Maybe I just need to get some stickers on it?

Yes I think stickers are a good idea. I have never really been a massive fan of blank bats. Maybe match the stickers what what brand your kit is.

Those few ounces make all the difference.

Looks like a Choice to me, although the shape is very similar to a Warsop Superior. Is the toe chiseled? Choice do toe inserts or used to
