Title: Using a drum sander
Post by: rudda23 on June 07, 2015, 03:01:02 AM
Hi All,

After some help with using a drum sander.  I recently purchased one and after a few efforts I am struggling to get the result I am after.  It is a pneumatic drum sander on a bench grinder and I am not sure if I have it pumped up too much, not enough or just not using it in the correct way.  Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Any pics? Did you build it yourself or was it a custom built job?

Could you mention the diameter of the sander base,
Also may need to check air pressure... What does the manual
Recommend and how much is there in it ??
Also the quality of sand paper used on the drum,
These all factors together help for desirable results ,
Once the all in place, surely you shall good results!!

Hi guys,  it is a 110mm drum - http://www.carbatec.com.au/pneumatic-sanding-drum_c1030 (http://www.carbatec.com.au/pneumatic-sanding-drum_c1030) setup is as in the picture
There were not instructions so I inflated it enough to keep the sleeve on without slipping.  Is there an art to properly using it?

What is the motor part of these called? I'm curious about how much it costs etc but i cant find anywhere that sells the motor (probably because im looking for the wrong thing!) with the double ends that you could connect a sander or buffing attachment too. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You can either buy a motor, or a bench grinder and replace the grinding wheel with a Jacob's chuck

Thanks mate, are all bench grinders replaceable?
