hi fellas,
we play lots of astro turf here & was wondering which shoes do you recommend for an all round play (batting, bowling & feilding).
have my eye on the new puma evospeed cricket rubber 3.3 but have heard asics & new balance does make some mean boots..
thanks..

For me when it comes to running, cricket or sporting shoes the answer is always Asics.
-
I recently got a pair of Gel Peake for an overseas tour. They were very comfy straight out of the box and would happily recommend.

They make an asics hard wicket shoe here in Australia for Astro turf, don't have hose rubber spikes to screw in and out. I haven't had any glory with any shoe for Astro turf - I hit the deck really hard and my front foot always slides. However, I stick with the asics.

hmm are these asics hard wicket shoes hard on the sole? thats my biggest fear as i'll need to purchase shoes via online as we dont have any cricket shoes in store here..

It's all about new balance!
I used to rock puma evospseeds for the AstroTurf. But once I bought I a pair of NB spikes. I knew I need some rubbers too.
Evospseeds got replaced by new balance. And they are spot on. Soft. Comfy good grip. But decent made (took a yorker to the foot last wed.

Yes mate those are the ones. Funnily enough, called 'gel hardwicket' I've had mine for about 3 years or so, mind you I only train on Astro turf don't play on it week in week out

They aren't too bad, they have probably gotten lighter over the years I would say. I've always been an asics faithful however NB shoes do look alright and are earning rave reviews. Not sure I'd ever stop using asics though!

Always go Asics for any sporting shoe they really are the best. I use the strike rate shoes with the pin's in for batting on astro I think you would want something with more grip for bowling though.
There are plenty of Asics options though.
I would stay away from NB shoes two people at our club have had them for less than a season and the shoe has come away from the sole.
One these was a fast bowler and he had the same type of incident that happened to that Scotland player at the world cup, very nasty!

using pins on astro?? really?? wouldn't that just mess up the surface??
-
I've a pair of the Adidas 22 Yards turf shoe. They are surprisingly comfortable and very grippy for bowling.
-
I have a puma evo speed rubbers and NB rubbers. Used to love the puma ones as they are light but after an inning of fielding your feet are pretty sore, perspective as they never felt uncomfortable, compared to how I feel when I use NB. I find NB are much more comfy although slightly more heavy.
I have tried other brands too, I find NB and Puma evospeed have the best grip on turf...
-
I swear by Asics, I have the gel peake ones as well. I have very flat feet and these provide great support paired with some horizon socks. Pairing your shoes with the right socks are essential. For the guys with new balance shoes, do they provide good support for wide flat feet? I love the design of the nb now.
-
Have used Evospeed in past and I use to get sore legs after match, not sure whether it is due to design or something even though it was perfect fit. Now using NB AB model (new) and felt really good. Also used Nike in between and found them really good.

Yes, totally my mistake I meant pins out!
-
I've got the Asics which are really comfortable, they have blank pins so they can be used as astros whenever needed.

im sorry what does blank pins mean?

just purchased the asics hardwicket 5 & its comfortable. it's got everything one needs for a synthetic wicket...
-
I've never played cricket on astro but I play a lot of hockey. I find trail running shoes really grip well and they are good on wet grass. Just in case you wanted a nice light trainer to use.

smart; but it doesnt give the support one needs..ive used trainers in the past, works well & light yes but you do slip the occasionally...
playing on astro is no where near playing on turf..i do play on turf but i've just joined a club where the leagues are being played on astro's only..hence the urgent requirement for a new shoe..
-
I use Nike Lunar Potential and although they are massively comfy and light, I wouldn't recommend them for batting week in, week out as there just isn't enough toe protection. There is more than on a normal trainer but if you get pinned by anything over slow medium then you'll know about it for a while. I play about 4 matches a year on astro and they are fine for that (and indoor nets). Bowling is a joy as they have the waffle texture sole (seen here: http://uzisports.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_92_255&product_id=999 (http://uzisports.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69_92_255&product_id=999)) which means there is no sliding on the delivery stride, at least for me and my pie-chucking action.

Sorry to open an old thread but just want some current advice from you folks before buying. Any heavier people amongst you - what shoes are you wearing for astro/ matting wickets? Was wearing asics for grass but will only be playing on matting with mainly dusty outfields. The playing kit is blue and pink, so (some) colour is OK. TIA.

I tend to shred boots and Astro because of my pivot when bowling, they usually fall apart on the front of the left boot, but have a pair of new balance that are holding up very well after two seasons. We're an Amazon bargain too.
-
I played a season of astro and just used rubber conversion screw-ins on my shoes as I didn't see the point wasting money on another set of shoes. I had no issues, but needed to inspect them every game as sometime the rubber comes off leaving a metal cap. If you want a uncomfortable shoe I recommend the Slazenger D30 boots on SportsDirect ;), then buy a set of Asics and your feet will think they are walking on clouds.

Kulli, Sarg - gleaming, fellas. Thank you!
